Justice Khalid Alvi of the LHC’s Multan bench passed the orders on a petition filed by Muzaffargarh district nazim Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan Jatoi against the alleged non-cooperation of the district bureaucracy in implementing the budget the district council had approved in its session held on July 13 last.
The petitioner had expressed apprehensions that the district bureaucracy was planning to prepare a parallel budget to undo the budget statement approved by elected representatives of the local government.
On July 13, doors of the Muzaffargarh district council hall were closed for members and, consequently, the budget session was to be held on a nearby road.

The judge sent 13 Mastois back to the Muzaffargarh district jail in the afternoon after they could not furnish surety bonds worth Rs 50,000 for each of them, in keeping with the decision of the review board comprising Justice Mian Najmuzzaman, Justice Shaikh Abdul Rashid and Justice M Bilal Khan.

MULTAN, Jan 21: The Punjab Environment Protection Department (EPD) is all set to kick off a survey in Muzaffargarh district from Wednesday (today) to gauge severity of the pollution being caused there by thermal power stations.
He said the thermal power station, Muzaffargarh, and Kot Addu power company (Kapco) did not have any facility to treat the fumes of furnace oil while AES, Lal Pir, though had the treatment plant, its management seldom used it to lessen the intensity of pollutants emitted by thermal power units.
He said due to the pollution temperature in the surrounding areas of the stations had been constantly rising by four degree Celsius as compared to the areas less-affected by the furnace oil in the district.

"The gang-rape of a young woman near Muzaffargarh, as a form of punishment, apparently ordered by a tribal jirga, is particularly shocking and presents an alarming picture of the conditions in which so many women live and the atrocities they face," the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), said in a statement on Tuesday.
It said the HRCP was especially shocked by the fact that the tribal jirga could have been allowed to meet, order the gang-rape of a teenaged woman apparently as a "punishment" for the actions of her brother, and then have this terrible sentence inflicted in the presence of at least 1,000 people.
Police authorities told IRIN from the remote region of Jatoi in the Punjab Province near Muzaffargarh that they had lodged a complaint against the alleged perpetrators of the crime.

MULTAN: A speeding passenger bus collided with an oil tanker on a road in Muzaffargarh, an agricultural area of eastern Punjab province on Sunday, killing 23 people and injuring more than 30 others, police said.
The crowded bus veered off its lane and rammed the oil truckwhich was coming from the opposite direction near Alipur, a town west of Multan, a major city in Punjab, area police officer said.
Many of the injured and those who died were in the bus that was heading to Alipur from the nearby city of Muzaffargarh.
