Chisemwa Chalunda traditional ceremony's Mwinilunga district organising committee chairman, Anderson Maloza, said this year's edition of the annual ceremony was expected to attract close to 10,000 people from different parts of the country.

He said some relatives found it difficult to keep the old women because they could not afford to look after them and instead they accused them of being witches so that they were chased away from the villages to lessen their burden.

Mwinilunga District Farmers’ Cooperative was currently scouting for about US$9 million to establish a fruit processing factory to fill the gap created by the defunct Mwinilunga pineapple cannery.
According to Mr Katuka, farmers in Mwinilunga were excited by the Cooperative’s initiative and were eager to have the pineapple processing revived in the district.

Patches of moist evergreen forest, known as 'mushitus', are found north of about 14°S, a particularly good accessible area being the Mwinilunga district of the far northwest, where many species typical of the Congolese rainforests can be found in the mushitus.
It was only the final 70 km from Mwinilunga to Hillwood where the 4x4 was really necessary, although we were able to go faster than a normal car on the roads beyond Lusaka as pot-holes were an intermittent hazard.
However, as this region is close to the Congo border, security may be a problem and you should check with the police in Mwinilunga before attempting to go there.
