My Friend Irma was supposed to be a straightforward adaptation of the popular radio sitcom of the same name.
When time came for the 1950 sequel, My Friend Irma Goes West, virtually the entire plot revolved around Martin and Lewis, with the official "stars" relegated to supporting roles.
Like Marie Wilson, several of the My Friend Irma cast members were holdovers from the radio series, including Hans Conried as Professor Kropotkin.

Through the years, IRMA (previously known as ITA when magnetic tape was all the rage) has seen this event ebb, flow and ultimately transform itself into a vestpocket symposium that, at its best, efficiently encapsulates key issues defining the media manufacturing marketplace.
IRMA and its Management Summit attendees have progressively benefited the last few years from a conference programming partnership with Understanding and Solutions, the U.K.-based research consultancy.
As good as this IRMA Management Summit was overall – and it was one of the very best in recent memory -- there was grumbling about just such a keynote that was disappointingly short on insight and surprisingly long on career credentials.

Irma to the big screen in 1949—naturally, the studio decided that it wasn’t necessary to spend a great deal of money on the project, believing that the novelty of seeing one of the country’s beloved sitcoms in theaters would guarantee robust ticket sales.
Irma today; it’s not a particularly great comedy (though it’s miles and away better than the radio show) but seeing the famous duo clown around is worth the price of admission.
I’m sure I’m probably in the minority on this, but I actually believe that Irma’s 1950 follow-up, My Friend Irma Goes West, is an improvement on the original—only because Dean and Jerry get more screen time to do their clowning.
