Myasishchev also oversaw design of the VM-T Atlant aircraft, a modification of his original M-4 bomber used to transport the Buran orbiter and Energia core propellant tanks from the factory to Baikonur.
The Myasishchev bureau was then in turn closed and the staff transferred to Filial 1 of Chelomei’s OKB-52 bureau in 1960.
Myasishchev’s bureau and its associated Khrunichev factory were an obvious choice, since the decision had been taken not to put the M-50 bomber or Buran cruise missile into production and the factory would soon be idle.

Myasishchev Design Bureau - named after General Designer Vladimir Mikhailovich Myasishchev - is the successor and continuer of the preceding design offices headed by the outstanding designer.
Since 1943 till 1946 V. Myasishchev took over liabilities of the perished V. Petliakov and headed the development and manufacture of the improved versions of a diving bomber Pe-2.
On March 24, 1951 V. Myasishchev organized the design bureau OKB-23 and on expiration of one year and 10 months a strategic bomber M-4 took off having outrun the rate of development of an American bomber B-52 that had the similar purpose.

 Myasishchev M-4
The Myasishchev M-4 Molot (Russian: Hammer, NATO reporting name Bison) is a four engined strategic bomber developed by the Soviet Union in the 1950s to provide a bomber capable of attacking targets in North America.
First flying soon after the first flight of the Boeing B-52, the M-4 initially impressed Soviet officials, however, it soon became clear that the bomber had an insufficient range to attack the United States, and only several of the original production M-4s were actually put into service.
To remedy this problem, the Myasishchev design bureau introduced the 3M, the Bison-B, which was considerably more powerful than the previous version.

In 1955, when the Myasishchev OKB was still striving to develop the huge 3M subsonic bomber, this design bureau was assigned the additional and much more difficult task of creating a strategic bomber able to make dash attacks at supersonic speed.
Even though the Myasishchev OKB was already heavily loaded with completing development of the huge M-4 strategic bomber and redesigning this into the 3M production version, this was the chosen design bureau.
Over 10 years later the same idea, credited by Myasishchev to L Minkin, was used on Concorde.

FS2004 Myasishchev 3MS-1 Bison-B. One of the Soviet Unions' most underestimated aircraft, the Myasishchev bomber usually known as the M-4 'Bison' or 'Molot' has probably been at least as important to the development of the Long-Range Aviation (DA) and the AVMF (Soviet Naval Aviation) as the better known Tupolev Tu-95 Bear.
With the expansion of the Soviet Navy in the 1950's and 60's, many Bison-B's were transferred to the AVMF to serve as long range reconaissance aircraft.
The Bison-B was one of the first Soviet types to carry a flight re-fuelling probe, a number of the 'Bison-As' being converted to tanker configuration.

The Molot (Hammer) was designed as a strategic bomber, but excessive fuel consumption of its engines and other design shortcomings limited its range to 8,000 km, which was insufficient for striking North American targets and returning to base.
