The Battle of Mycale was one of the two major battles that ended the Persian invasion of Greece, during the Greco-Persian Wars.
Mycale resulted in the destruction of the main Persian forces in Ionia, as well as their Mediterranean fleet.
They sailed to the nearly peninsula of Mycale just to the east of the city, and formed a wall out of a number of their ships, dragging the rest onto the beach.

He emailed me to say that Rob van Soest had identified the food as Mycale micracanthoxea (see separate message).
Now it is very interesting that this sponge appears to occur primarily in the Oosterschelde and to be very common there.
If, as you suggest, Mycale micracanthoxea does turn out to be an introduced species which Geitodoris planata has found particularly tasty, it would explain the unusual population explosion of this species in the Netherlands.
