The material of the world-wide deep-sea expedition "DANA", which is held at the Zoological Museum of the University of Copenhagen (ZMUC), will provide an excellent basis for an investigation of the biogeography of mesopelagic fishes.
Many representatives of the very specious family Myctophidae (33 genera, 249 species) caught during the "DANA" expedition are still unidentified.
The research will be made at ZMUC in late 2002, the museum is part of the Copenhagen Biosystematics centre (COBICE), the visit is paid by the European Commission's programme for Improving the Human Research Potential and Socio-Economic Knowledge Base (IHP) and provides transnational access to major research infrastructures.
