Mygalomorphae - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Mygalomorphae, (also called the Orthognatha), are an infraorder of spiders.
Unlike Araneomorphae, which die after about a year, Mygalomorphae can live for up to 25 years, and some don't reach maturity until they are about six years old.
The Mygalomorphae are divided into two infraorders, the Tuberculotae and Fornicephalae.

The Evolution of Web Usage in Spiders
The order Araneae (spiders) is traditionally divided into three divisions; the Mesothelae (also known as the Liphistomorpha), the Mygalomorphae, tarantulas and relatives (also called the Orthognatha or the Theraphosomorphae) and the Araneomorphae, the rest of the spiders (also known as the Labidognatha).
However it is possible the Mesothelea are really a part of the Mygalomorphae, this would leave us with only two groups; the primitive Tarantula types (Mygalomorphae) and the more advanced Aranaeid type (Araneomorphae).
There are about 1,000 species in the Mygalomorphae, (only one in the UK) and over 36,500 species in the Araneomorphae of which more than 600 can be found in the UK.

The family Theraphosidae belong to a “primitive” group of spiders known as the infraorder Mygalomorphae, these spiders differ to others in that they present a unique combination of characters that define them.
Most of the Mygalomorphae have developed a fossorial lifestyle, living on the ground and often, underneath it in burrows.
There are currently 20 odd families in the Mygalomorphae, the Theraphosidae being the largest members of the group.

Differently from the spiders of the Araneomorphae suborder, in this group of spiders the chelicerae move in parallel with the longitudinal axis of the body, there are two pairs of lungs, and their venom glands are situated entirely inside the basal segment of the chelicerae [1].
The former occurred when the same question was asked to different people in very close times; the latter occurred when the same question was asked to the same person in different moments.
Bird-spiders cause accidents with small repercussion, and there are no recordings of serious accidents between Mygalomorphae spiders and humans in Brazil [4,39].

Mygalomorphae - This sub order completely lacks the anterior median spinnerets that are present within the sub-order Mesothelae.
The tarantula belongs the the sub-order Mygalomorphae, due to it's parallell chelicarae arrangment, lack of anterior median spinnerets, and highly reduced anterior lateral spinnerets.
So, we now know that it's the sub order of Mygalomorphae we need to be looking at, in order to locate the genera 'Theraphosidae' - or 'tarantula'.
