Myitkyina is the capital of the Kachin State in Myanmar (Burma).
Myitkyina and its environs, long-forbidden to foreigners, have recently become newly emerged destinations for international travelers, meaning the whole region with its different indigenous ethnic nationals, and their cultures remain unspoiled, exotic and original.
Although Myitkyina is pretty close to the border area of China, southwest area of Yunnan province in China, most businessmen from Myanmar have used different route, roads in Shan State, cross the border and go into Yunnan, and huge volume of China products flow into Myanmar from Shan State.

 Stilwell Road (Ledo Road)
General Stilwell's Operations Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Frank D. Merrill recommended building a road from Ledo, Assam, India to Burma connecting the old Burma Road to provide a Land Supply to China and Burma for support of the Allied soldiers who were fighting in the North Burma.
Then after some days later, they captured Myitkyina town itself, which was stronghold of Japanese forces based in north Burma and the two months campaign ended on August 3, 1944 with Merrill's Marauders 127 deaths and 291 wounded besides, other casualties.
Myitkyina was one of the main missions of Stilwell.

 The Road to Burma -- More on the India-Burma Campaign
Plans were drawn up for an offensive to begin with a Chinese-American force attacking North Burma with the goal of capturing Myitkyina which would remove the threat of enemy fighter planes attacking allied forces flying the Hump.
The general wanted to continue the press toward Myitkyina before the mid-summer monsoon rains forced an end to the campaign.
