Myrica - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Myrica is a genus of about 35 species of small trees and shrubs in the family Myricaceae, order Fagales.
The type species, Myrica gale, is holarctic in distribution, growing in acidic peat bogs throughout the colder parts of the Northern Hemisphere; it is a deciduous shrub growing to 1 m tall.
Myrica faya, native to the volcanic islands of Madeira and the Canary Islands, has become an invasive species on the Hawaiian volcanoes where it was introduced in the 19th century; its ability to fix nitrogen makes it very well adapted to growing on low-nitrogen volcanic soils.

She didn't tell Myrica flat out of her gifts, but told her of her abilities to see spirits(which tied in with how she was always having invisible friends when she was younger) and control them, and told her that she needed to become the next Kalih of the temple.
She began training underneath the current Kalih, and at the age of twelve was made a full priestess, and given the extra surname of Astralan, which was given to her during a sort of prophetic star ceremony, where she was blindfolded and had to choose a star from off of a starmap.
Myrica learned the ways of the Kalih extraordinarily quickly, and when she was 16, was given the title of Kalih of Valode.

Background/history : Myrica's mother (a witch) died when she was very young, and her Muggle father, whose job required him to travel a lot, often left her with her grandparents (a wizard & a witch).
When her father, after a visit in which little Myrica didn't recognize him, decided to quit his job and raise his daughter himself, it was quite a shock for Myrica, going from a magic household to a Muggle one.
Myrica, who inherited her father's temper, often got into fights with him over various things, mostly based on the fact that Myrica had learned to use a little magic with her grandparents and persisted in using it against his wishes.

We examined how the presence of the aromatic low shrub Myrica gale and of predatory lady beetles affected herbivore damage and reproductive output in a population of the perennial herb Lythrum salicaria in northern Sweden.
An observational study showed that L. salicaria growing in Myrica thickets were less damaged by herbivores, had a lower abundance of the monophagus, leaf-feeding, chrysomelid beetle Galerucella calmariensis, and had higher flower and seed production than L. salicaria outside Myrica thickens.
The results indicate that the abundance of the specialist herbivore G. calmariensis, and the herbivore damage and reproductive output of its host plant, L. salicaria, are affected both by the presence of the nonhost Myrica and by predation from lady beetles.
