Myst - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Myst (or MYST) is a graphic adventure computer game designed and directed by the brothers Robyn and Rand Miller.
After the Myst back story evolved, it was fixed that the events in Myst occurred in the early 1800s.
Myst 3 was done by Presto and Myst 4 was produced by Ubisoft (with a tiny bit of input from Cyan) instead of the original Cyan team who made Myst, Riven and Myst 5.

Myst IV Revelation Final Impressions - PC News at GameSpot
As in previous Myst games, your character is anonymous and disembodied--you are addressed by Atrus and his daughter in the second person, giving you the impression that it's actually you exploring the game's mysterious world.
Myst IV seems to prove, though, that there's still a lot to be said for using real actors in the context of a game.

Myst Masterpiece Edition (Mac review)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
What Presto has done with the original Myst might be described as 'remastering.' Its effects become noticeable immediately after you start the game: the digitally remastered soundtrack makes the music sound more spacious and opulent, while the 16-bit sound effects pack more aural punch than those in the original.
Though Myst did not exactly abound in animations, it's still nice to see that the two little butterflies flitting across your path on the Myst Island are now much better blended in with their surroundings and no longer have that "oh-look-we-have-pasted-an-animated-sequence-here" look.
If, on the other hand, you are a Myst fan who was hoping that this new edition might introduce something completely new in terms of gameplay (a 'bonus' world to explore, for example), you will have to wait for the arrival of Myst 3.

While Myst IV will return to its legacy of pre-rendered backgrounds, the scenes should be much more dynamic due to various video panels seamlessly integrated into various scenes, creating the illusion of live settings instead of static backgrounds.
Myst IV: Revelation has been in development for nearly three years (development started in September 2001), and it's good to see the series return to its roots and hopefully tie up a lot of loose ends from previous games.

Myst IV Revelation Review - PC
Myst IV doesn’t break any new ground for the series, but still remains an extremely compelling adventure game with a fantastic presentation and ranks as the best of the series and one of the best of the genre.
Myst IV places the player once again in the company of the D’ni scientist Atrus and his family as they reside at an Age (a term used for a world visited by the D’ni people through the method of traveling through a book, a process known as “the Art”) known as Tomahna.
Myst IV remains true to the series in terms of gameplay, and continues the engaging Myst storyline very well, combining challenging puzzles with a deep and complex universe.

IMG Review: Myst V: End of Ages
In fact, Myst may have been the first true "killer app" produced by the computer game industry: something the computing industry defines as a "must-have" program that is so desirable that it sells hardware all by itself (similar to how Halo contributed to the Xbox's success).
After Myst sold several million copies, Rand and Robyn Miller were able to move out of their garage and into their own studio.

Four Fat Chicks -- Uru: Ages Beyond Myst Review
The first two, Myst and Riven, were designed by Cyan, a company formed by the brothers Rand and Robyn Miller.
These were both groundbreaking in their visual beauty and in their gameplay style: they are inventoryless, first-person, environmental games set in a parallel world in which it is critical to pay close attention to your surroundings.
Exile continued the point-and-click tradition of Myst and Riven, with the addition of node-based panning instead of largely static slideshow-style screens; the overall feel of the game, though, was pretty much the same as its predecessors.
