He found the Book he hid inside and used it to Link to the Stoneship Age where he carefully hid two of the pages, one of each colour.
They couldn't read the D'ni Art very well, but they knew enough to know that these books were indeed Linking Books, and Sirrus noted with satisfaction the few D'ni symbols on the last page which said that the person using the book would indeed return to the library.
That Myst Linking Book he had used to link back to Myst and escape from Ghen before the evil man could get at them.

Well it is a long story but if you are interested in why Myst is the way it is, were Riven originated from, and how the "ages" work, I would advise you to read the fictional origins of Myst called "Myst: The Book of Atrus" which is actually a very good book.
I will give you the fact that D& is an underground city, but at the end of Myst that IS where Atrus is. You know that it can't be Riven because in the very begining Riven you transport from the room with Atrus to Riven.
Riven is not in the original Myst game (although you see Atrus writing in the book that links to it), you link to it from D& in the second game, Riven.

The three Myst Books are: The Book of Atrus, The Book of Ti'ana and The Book of D'ni.
This is the first book of the series and introduces the reader into the history behind the Myst Game and also develops the background knowledge of the Art and Ages.

We first encounter them in the red book and blue book in the library on Myst and begin the quest of retrieving red pages and blue pages for their books.
From here on the focus no longer is on restoring the physical location of D'ni in the cavern, but rather on restoring the D'ni people and way of life in a new age.

The book is well worth reading, however, if only for all the wonderful description of D'ni you get in the beginning, and the satisfaction of knowing how happy Atrus and Catherine are after Riven, and that the D'ni civilization hasn't died out completely.

Here are the prophesies that were revealed in Myst: The Book of D'ni.
'NI The events in Myst: The Book of D'ni, (BoD), take place about 70 years from the fall of Dni, and almost 40 years after Gehn imprisoned Atrus on K'veer.
This word means unseen in the D'ni language, and may have meant the same in the Terahnee language, which has a common origin in the Ronay people of Garternay, the original home of both the D'ni and the Terahnee.

Despite the title, the final book is not "The Book of D'Ni", it is "The Book of Terahnee".
In the third book, there is a mention that the Book of Terahnee had several passages written over and over, which the characters refer to as if the writer was "trying to reinforce the earlier phrases" to either make the age more stable or more specific.
Clearly, the writer of the Book of Terahnee created the Age.

The basic concept of the Myst series is that an ancient civilisation, the D'ni, could write books of a new world by detailing all the various aspects of that world.
Although Myst III is not as difficult as the previous games, it still deserves the same respect, as it adds to the already greatly interesting world of Myst as portrayed in the books and games.
