Mystery film - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mystery film is a sub-genre of the more general category of crime film.
The successful mystery film often conceals the identity of the perpetrator until late in the story, then adds an element of suspense during the apprehension of the suspect.
Among the notable mystery detective films of this period were In the Heat of the Night (1967), Bullitt (1968), Klute (1971) and Chinatown (1974).

It was not that the tragic end of a film star whose work I had learned to love was not horrible to me, but rather because, for once, I thought Kennedy actually confronted a situation where his knowledge of a given angle of life was hardly sufficient for his usual analysis of the facts involved.
Because the film world had fascinated me always I had made a point of being posted on its people and their activities.
Just before the break-up of General Film he had become many times a millionaire and it was then that he had sent a wave of laughter over the entire country by an actual cable to William Shakespeare, address London, asking for all screen rights to the plays written by that gentleman.

LIGHT VIEWS FILM REVIEW: MYSTERY MEN   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
Welcome to the colorful, tongue-in-cheek world of "Mystery Men," a comic book import that is a prime example of style of substance.
A lot of effort has gone into making the comic book page come alive (the film is a production designer and visual effects artist wet dream), yet most of the situations and dialogue are as flat as the printed page.
The production design is convincing, and so are the film's numerous visual and special effects, even though they tend to get in the way.

Three films which kept resonating in my mind as I watched this small but effective film, were the underdog done good flick, RUDY, the character driven small town tale, BEAUTIFUL GIRLS (9/10), and the bigger budgeted FOR LOVE OF THE GAME (7/10).
I enjoyed all of the performances in the film, except for the Burt Reynolds character who seemed a little too narrowly drawn for my taste, but kudos to Russell Crowe and the rest of the gang for portraying these folks as real human beings, instead of stick figures from the minds of Hollywood execs.
