		A 62-year-old woman was on Monday found dead in Mzimba in a pool of her own blood with her neck slit, barely 24 hours after she was reported missing.
		Mzimba Police public relations officer Symon Maele told The Daily Times Tuesday that apart from a deep cut on the neck, there was no other bruise or cut on the rest of her body.

		Matthews Beza of Mzimba District, Malawi was at risk of dropping out of school at age fourteen.

	Malawi food crisis: regular updates
		Plan Malawi is procuring 3,000 metric tons (mt) of maize, 3, 000mt of pulses and 300mt of corn soya blend to cover this period.
		In Plan-supported communities in Mzimba, 8,500 households are expected to benefit from food relief—but another 11,500 have been identified as vulnerable.
		Food distribution in Mzimba, which is the country's largest district, will run from December 2005 to March 2006 and will target 32,000 households monthly—including child-headed households, vulnerable women, HIV/AIDS affected groups and the elderly.

	Lightening strike kills 11 during Malawi church service
		Violent lightening and heavy rains, which normally bring joy at the beginning of the wet season, have triggered the deaths of 12 people in church accidents during a two-day period in Malawi's northern Mzimba district.
		A child was killed and 38 people at Jandalala Roman Catholic church in Mzimba sustained injuries when the walls of their church collapsed on them after the roof was whipped off by heavy winds.
		Richard Luhanga of the police in Mzimba said that on 17 December 11 people from the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) in Chiseng'ezi Church in the same district were struck dead by lightening while attending a church service.

		In the period 23-28 April 2006 the Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee (MVAC) conducted its annual field assessments in the Districts of Nsanje, Chikwawa, Blantyre, Kasungu, Mzimba, Dowa, Ntchisi, Salima, Mangochi, Phalombe, Zomba, Rumphi, and Karonga.
		Initially, the MVAC planned to present their findings to decision makers and donors in the second week of May 2006, but due to floods in the Nkhata Bay area at the time of the field assessments the MVAC team had to postpone the assessment in the district until the area became accessible.
		The results of the nutrition assessment, which focussed on anthropometric indicators, care practices, livelihoods, wealth, morbidity and mortality indicators, will be integrated into the final MVAC report, which is scheduled for release in June.
