The B Sixth Avenue Express is a service of the New York City Subway.
The B is one of only two New York City Subway lines that have two or more stations with the same name (the other being the R): It has two "Seventh Avenue" stations, one in Brooklyn and the other in Manhattan.
The partial closure of the Manhattan Bridge to subway service between 1986 and 2004 impacted B service by severing the connection between the northern and southern portions of the service.

The Newark City Subway was, for the most part, constructed in the bed of the Morris Canal, which itself was built between Jersey City and Phillipsburg, NJ in the period 1825-1837.
In 1927, the Newark portion of the canal was authorized to become a right-of-way for streetcars, and construction began on this new subway on November 18, 1929.
Service on the streetcar routes was mostly short-lived as a program of bus-substitution began as early as July, 1937.

New York mayor, Rudolph Guiliani, a former federal prosecutor, said during an interview that the apartment that was raided, located at 238 Fourth Avenue in Brooklyn, was located essentially over a subway station.
The New York Daily News, citing unidentified police sources, reported on Friday that at least one of the suspects may be a member of the Islamic terrorist group HAMAS, which claimed responsibility for Wednesday's deadly bombing in Jerusalem.
New York Police Commissioner Howard Safir said each of the five bombs was powerful enough to kill someone within a radius of 25 feet, and injure someone at a range of 100 feet, but he said it was not clear whether they were "intended to be separate devices or one device."
