Nintendo 64 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The N64 was released on June 23, 1996 in Japan, September 29, 1996 in North America, and March 1, 1997 in Europe/Australia.
The N64 was first publicly introduced on November 24th, 1995 as the Nintendo Ultra 64 at the 7th Annual Shoshinkai Software Exhibition in Japan.
While N64 games generally had higher polygon counts, resulting in characters and settings that were more complex with a high amount of 3D-detail, the limited storage size of ROM carts limited the amount of available textures, resulting in games which had an unusual flat shaded look.

Nintendo 64 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
The N64 was first introduced in volume # 85 of Nintendo Power magazine.
However, many people were let down by the N64 version which turned out to completely rely on real time rendering and looked much worse than the pre-rendering used in arcade systems.
Without the excitement generated by these Nintendo 64 titles, the Nintendo 64 would have probably sold far less, especially since Nintendo was a late contender in that console generation.

Chances are that you have played on, or at least seen, one of the three generations of home video game systems the company has created, not to mention the enormously popular hand-held game system, the Gameboy.
The current system, the Nintendo 64 (N64), was a technical tour de force when it was introduced, and still compares admirably to other consoles on the market.
As you read through the next few pages, you will learn how the N64 was developed, what's inside the box, how the controller works and how it all works together.

As I have never had this problem, and my N64 RGB mod is different from the 'standard' RGB mod circulating around the net, I decided to make a gif.
What I believe is responsible for the good quality RGB I get is the fact that the RGB signals are tapped directly from the chip itself and not from the (signal-weakening) resistors C124, C125 and C126 on the downside of the board.
I have a Jap N64 by the way, but since all N64 boards are identical apart from the lockout on the PAL version, this method will almost certainly work.

This follows very closely on the heels of Sony's announcement of its PSone (more), something Nintendo has become known for doing of late (with the exception of its Dolphin announcements).
In all likelihood, this will simply be a redesigned system that will allow Nintendo to get the price of the N64 down below the $99 pricepoint eventually, something that PSone will allow Sony to do for Playstation.
There may be a couple of additional features for the new system, but like the PSone, probably not enough to warrant a purchase if you already have the original in most cases.
