FuturePundit: Nanog Stem Cell Gene Enables Pluripotency
The experiments suggest that as long as the nanog gene is turned on a cell will not differentiate into a specialized adult cell type.
The development of the means to control the expression of genes such as nanog which regulate the type of tissue that cells become will eventually open the door to the ability to grow replacement organs and stem cell therapies to rejuvenate aged stem cell reservoirs.
"nanog" cell seems to be the actual proof of what almost all religions called "future immortality" of Humans obtainable "subject to improve soul and spirit power against body will".

CellNEWS_How to Make Stem Cells Stay Growing
The report reveals that the protein Nanog, named after the mythological Celtic land of the ever young 'Tir nan Og', is required for the special ability of stem cells to multiply without limit while remaining able to make many different types of cell.
The research group at the Institute for Stem Cell Research, University of Edinburgh has shown that the Nanog gene, which is only expressed in pluripotent cells, plays an essential function in maintaining stem cells.
The Homeoprotein Nanog is required for maintenance of pluripotency in mouse epiblast and ES cells.

Stem Cell Master Gene Found Ability to Manipulate It May Aid T, The World Health Network - Anti-Aging and Longevity
In recognition of that power, the researchers have named the gene "nanog," a reference to the mythological Celtic land of Tir Nan Og, whose fairy-like residents are said to stay forever young.
In nanog's case, the resulting pattern of gene activity is typically seen in human cells only around the fourth or fifth day of embryo development -- when, from a cell's point of view, everything is possible but nothing has been decided.
That suggests that if scientists were to reawaken the dormant nanog gene in adult human cells -- something the Japanese group and others would like to try soon -- they might "reprogram" the gene activity patterns in those adult cells and turn them into cells that, for all practical purposes, are embryonic stem cells.

New Scientist Breaking News - Stem cell 'immortality' gene found
"Nanog seems to be a master gene that makes ESCs grow in the laboratory," says Ian Chambers, one of the team at the Institute for Stem Cell Research (ISCR), Edinburgh, Scotland.
In one experiment, the addition of Nanog prevented mouse ESCs from specialising, even though they were subjected to conditions under which they would normally have been forced to become a mature cell.
Nanog is likely to direct the process of ESCs renewing themselves by switching on and off other genes, says the team.

 Re: NANOG Changes
I think all three of us are looking at this as a temporary > assignment until the broader issues of NANOG governance are sorted out.
Third, I think that the current unilateral governance system where Merit decides what's the best thing to do after collecting input from interested parties (which, by the way, is exactly what the nanog-reform community set out to change) means that it's basically Merit's decision right now who moderates and how.
I wish that Merit had reached out to the whole nanog@ community in search of interrim moderators rather than limiting its solicitation to the nanog-reform@ or any other subcommunity.

FAQ: Why Use a Routing Registry?
A thread that appeared on the NANOG email list during fall 2000 raised the question, "why should I bother to register in the RADB?" We've posted some of the responses here, for those of you've asked yourselves the same question.
Beyond this, the peering agreement with at least one major network mandates that you register routes if you want to peer with them and that you filter.
However, if both parties register the data for their nets in the RADB, it saves them the grief of setting up their own IRR repository.
