GALILEO Galileo is a NASA spacecraft mission to Jupiter to study the planet's atmosphere, satellites and surrounding magnetosphere.
NASA's Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif. is responsible for the atmosphere probe, which was built by Hughes Aircraft Company, El Segundo, Calif. The probe project and science teams will be stationed at Ames during pre-mission, mission operations, and data reduction periods.

NASA satellite data suggest that for more than two decades there's been a gradual greening of the northern latitudes of Earth.
James Hansen, of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York, developed this data set and said, "The data were compiled from several thousand meteorological stations in the United States and around the world.
Compton Tucker, of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md., is a co-author of the report and developed NDVI to analyze spectral data collected by orbiting weather satellites.

NASA is expected to announce a significant overhaul of Mars planning groups, both here at NASA Headquarters and at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California -- the center that manages the Mars exploration effort.

 Lunar Prospector destined for a Watery Grave
NASA scientists have decided to send Lunar Prospector crashing into the Moon's south pole in search of water.
June 3, 1999: NASA's first mission to the Moon in 25 years may end with a splash on July 31, 1999, when ground controllers deliberately attempt to crash the diminutive Lunar Prospector spacecraft into a permanently shadowed crater near the lunar south pole.
This effort to gain additional science data about the Moon's composition was proposed to NASA by an external team of scientists led by Dr. David Goldstein of the University of Texas in Austin.
