  NC-MSEN Pre-College Sloan Summer Student Program 2003
The First NCSSSMST Sloan Summer Student Program was hosted by the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics from July 7-15, 2003.
The Mission of the National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools of Mathematics, Science and Technology, the nation's foremost alliance of schools dedicated to transforming mathematics, science, and technology education, is to create synergies among schools engaged in educational innovation by shaping national policy fostering collaboration and developing, testing implementing, and dissemination exemplary programs.
One of the goals of the National Comsortium for Specialized Secondary Schools of Mathematics, Science and Technology is to increase underrepresented populations in NCSSSMST schools.

The NCSSSMST Student Research Symposium is designed specifically to involve students in scientific research and provide a model for disseminating information on how to teach scientific research to secondary students.
The Student Research Symposium provides an opportunity for two or more students (9th through 11th graders) from each Consortium institution to present their research in a prestigious conference setting made possible by a host university.
The meeting is not a competition, but rather an educational experience that encourages further investigation in the area of research.

The NCSSSMST schools were slightly higher for research skills, while IMSA was marginally higher for creative thinking.
Just as the +1 IMSA students were accumulating credit hours earlier, the +4 IMSA students they appear to be graduating significantly sooner than their NCSSSMST counterparts (subject to more precise pinpointing of survey date cutoffs) and have a greater (though not quite statistically significant) tendency to attempt or complete a double major.
In addition to the differences graphed above, and as expected, IMSA and NCSSSMST students were more than twice as likely as the national graduate pool to have majors in areas related to either math or science (55.0% and 61.0% versus 26.0%, respectively).

 Program Overview : Keystone Center Policy Summit   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
Schools of Mathematics, Science and Technology (NCSSSMST) organized an unusual and highly successful pilot project on policy-making involving 75 students from 12 specialized math and science schools in 9 states.
Participants attended the Youth Policy Summit in Keystone, Colorado in June where they learned about conflict resolution techniques and had an opportunity to develop a recommendation paper for distribution to key decision makers in their community as well as in national and state government.
Building on these successful efforts, TKC and NCSSSMST now plan to organize and implement a third Youth Policy Summit with a focus on child and adolescent nutrition in America's schools and the country’s growing problems associated with obesity.

The first annual Summit was launched June 20-26, 2004, and involved 40 students and 14 teachers from 10 Consortium member schools which took place on the 23-acre residential campus of Keystone Science School, located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains— Keystone, Colorado.
NCSSSMST is a forum and clearinghouse for the exchange of information and program ideas among faculty, staff, and students from member schools and affiliated organizations.
NCSSSMST membership is extended to public and private secondary schools, colleges and universities, organizations, and individuals whose primary interests are congruent with the mission of the Consortium.

The theory of the conference goes something like this: Eight juniors are selected each year from Blair to visit the campus of a technically- oriented university for three days of lectures, classes and events.
Maybe it was the fact that they were smuggled out of school during the midst of the sniper shootings, or maybe it was because the trip was timed perfectly to get them away from the mid-Safety Project stress.
Wallops is the perennial peak of the Magnet experience, NCSSSMST was a kind of small summit: It didn't help to show the panorama of the Magnet from a new angle, but it one of those refreshing and bracing places to be.

 The Scientist : Science 'Magnet' High School Programs Growing In Popularity, Variety

Sadly, narrowness often wins, and the violin or flute is left at home as the student heads off for four focused years of serious physics or history.
Leonardo may have more to do with the average NCSSSMST student than is usually guessed.
The overall advice for NCSSSMST students going off to college: if there’s room in the mind for the violin, there will be no problem finding room for it in the car or the day.

In 2007, TJHSST is hosting the fall student conference for the National Consortium of Specialized Secondary Schools of Math, Science, and Technology (NCSSSMST).

Today, the National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools of Mathematics, Science, and Technology (NCSSSMST) boasts some 80-member schools, and dozens more are popping up around the country.
Each school has its own entrance requirements and approach to high-tech education, says Cheryl Lindeman, assistant to the NCSSSMST president and a biology teacher at the Central Virginia Governor’s School for Science and Technology (CVGS) in Lynchburg.
But all seem to share an emphasis on moving beyond static classroom education and giving their students real-world experience through group projects, field trips, and internships.

The conference is being funded with a grant from the Ford Motor Company to Smith's Picker Engineering Program and sponsored by the National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools of Mathematics, Science and Technology (NCSSSMST).
