The Nearness of Christ's Coming   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
Taking nearness in the sense of a few years and pointing to the obvious historical fact that some 1800 or 1900 years had gone by since the time of the New Testament, the liberals concluded that Christ and the apostles were mistaken when they proclaimed the end as near.
The premillennialists explain the nearness of Christ's coming as His possible coming "at any moment." C. Scofield taught that the meaning of nearness is that "no known or predicted event must intervene" between the church in the world and the coming of Christ for the church in the secret rapture.
Biblical nearness is not "soon by human standards." The same apostle who in Philippians 4:5 states that the Lord is near here teaches that a long period of time stretches out between the Thessalonian church at the end of the first century and the day of Christ.

Qurb And Bu‘D (Nearness And Remoteness)
Nearness in Sufi usage pertains to and is acquired by mortal beings created in any phase or part of time, and undergoing different forms and stages of existence.
Such nearness is not the particular nearness acquired by belief and good deeds; it is God’s being near to His servants, nearer to them than their selves, including every created thing or being—living or non-living, believer or unbeliever, good or evil.
This nearness to the Almighty is possessed by those who have discovered the way of nearness and, having entered the corridor leading to eternity, reach every morning and evening with a new, deep dimension of belief.

Re–approaching nearness   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
In other words, another way of explaining the irrelevancy of the near is to say that the death of distance has in fact placed a greater distance between individuals and their immediate surroundings [2].
The goal of a pedagogy of nearness is, instead, to form human beings who are continuously invested in decreasing irrelevancy, and who recognize in this praxis the very essence of the human project: to seek to know the truth is to act in accordance with the truth.
Irrelevancy of the near is not a new phenomenon.

 Nearness of Christ
What a blessing it is when in the midst of our discouragements and sometimes our self-aversion because of failures or littleness of spirit we are able to look away to this glorious fact of our relationship to God through the Lord Jesus Christ.
This mystical indwelling of Christ is the secret of the Christian life of victory, of fellowship with God, and of the sense of nearness of God.
He who is near to God has access to the Divine resources of blessing and help.

 i d e a n t: Movable Distance: Technology, Nearness and Farness
The fact that this implies a degradation in temporal/spatial nearness is countered by the fact that this kind of communication provides new knowledge and new dimensions of being; in other words, new opportunities for nearness of a different sort.
The interesting thing is that the temporal/spatial bias would suggest that things are epistemologically near when they are near in terms of the space and time metric, when in fact (because of the 'annihilation' of this metric) this is no longer necessarily the case.
Again, the temporal/spatial bias suggests that things are ontologically near when they are near in terms of time and space, but upon closer examination we can see that this might not be necessarily the case.

Nearness and Confidence   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
The answer is confidence--and confidence is the effect of nearness, having its source in the knowledge of God: " I know whom I have believed." Nearness may be spoken of as the peculiar characteristic blessing of Christianity.
As being for the moment God's people on the earth, Christians come incidentally into the blessings of the new covenant; but the calling is as priests to serve a living God in the sanctuary.
On the other hand, there is a warmth in nearness which nourishes confidence, and if we ask anything according to His will, we know that He heareth us.

Nicole Henry | The Nearness Of You   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
The Nearness Of You, her first full-length jazz album, certainly qualifies as a swinging album of standards, but probably lacks the distinctiveness necessary to get the South Florida resident much notice beyond the regional scene.
The Nearness Of You finds Henry in the company of many other performers in the early stages of their recording careers who show promise.
The question is now whether she will continue developing similar to a performer like Dianne Reeves—whose wildly uneven jazz and pop albums from her early days have given way to a string of Grammy successes—or try achieving wider recognition by veering fully into the pop field.

Sarah DeLeo | The Nearness of You
I was particularly impressed with the tune selection and arrangements on her debut, The Nearness of You.
This is followed, however, by a very soulful and bluesy version of “Angel Eyes” that she sings accompanied only by Mark Verdino's bass.
Ending the album as she began, DeLeo presents a bossa nova version of “So in Love,” and like all of Cole Porter's tunes, it seems to have anticipated the bossa nova revolution by several decades.

i d e a n t: The Will to Nearness vs. the Will to Farness
Human moral agency can be defined as a struggle between the will to Nearness and the will to Farness.
The will to Nearness (even nearness to what is farthest from us, such as the Unknown and the Unreal) is the will to open the heart and the soul, to humble oneself, to expose and to risk one's most inner being.
Those who express the will to Nearness will find companionship both everywhere and nowhere, because the will to Nearness is never fully resolved.
