[124.04] Tidal Circularization Cutoff Periods in the WOCS Open Clusters NGC 188, NGC 2168 (M35), and NGC 6819   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
As such, determination of tidal cutoff periods as a function of age provides a critical test for the theories of tidal circularization.
As part of the WIYN Open Cluster Study (WOCS), we have used the WIYN 3.5m telescope and Hydra multiobject spectrograph since 1996 to obtain precise radial velocities for late-type main sequence stars in the open clusters NGC 2168 (age ~ 0.15 Gyr) and NGC188 (age ~7 Gyr).
Well defined tidal circularization cutoff periods are found at periods of 10.3 days and 14.9 days for NGC 2168 and NGC 188, respectively.

 Messier Object 67
Open Cluster M67 (NGC 2682), type 'f', in Cancer
M67 is one of the oldest known open clusters, and by far the oldest of Messier's open clusters, being aged at 3.2 billion years in the Star Catalog 2000; Mallas/Kreimer quote an even higher, but probably outdated value of 10 billion years.
Only few known open clusters were found to be older, among them probably NGC 188 at about 5 billion years, longly quoted as the oldest known cluster, and NGC 6791, which is about 7 billion years old (according to Götz), and is currently the oldest known open cluster in our Milky Way galaxy.

Spectroscopy of Blue Stragglers and Turnoff Stars in M67 (NGC 2682)
We have analyzed high-resolution spectra of relatively cool blue stragglers and main sequence turnoff stars in the old open cluster M67 (NGC 2682).
We attempt to identify blue stragglers whose spectra are least contaminated by binary effects (contamination by a binary companion or absorption by circumstellar material).

M67 (NGC 2682) is much smaller than The Beehive, with much fainter stars, and is therefore not as impressive in binoculars.
Large telescopes will resolve perhaps fifty or sixty stars (the total number here exceeds five hundred).
