How Many Galaxies can be Packed into One Area of Sky?
Also known as NGC 4303, it is a spiral galaxy.
NGC 4535 is another round galaxy, with a brightness of magnitude 9.8, and seeming to have a size between that of M49 and M61.
NGC 4426 is an elongated galaxy, which often is the result of a galaxy having a past gravitational encounter with another galaxy.

The close galaxy pair NGC 4410a/b is strongly influenced by their interaction, causing central activity.
Furthermore, NGC 4569 is located within the observable central X-ray cooling flow of the Virgo cluster (Böhringer et al.
According to Keel (1996), the interpretation as an AGN is equivocal because of constraints provided by small line widths and dominance of a single photospheric temperature in the optical spectra.

 Astron. Astrophys. 360, 447-456 (2000)
As already mentioned, no useful spatial information on the X-ray structure of NGC 4303 can be obtained from the PSPC data due to the spatial resolution of the detector, and moreover to the 17´ off-axis position of the source in the FOV.
The labeled sources (A-F) are the ones spatially coinciding with the optical disk of NGC 4303 (see text and Table 4 for details).
Nevertheless, self-absorption within NGC 4303 must be expected, and small-scale deviations from the observed Galactic value by DL90cannot be ruled out and may result in a higher absorption from the Milky Way.

NGC 4303 is to date the best example of the claimed starburst- AGN connection.
If the Seyfert classification is confirmed, NGC 4303 will be the first ever detected galaxy with a Seyfert nucleus where the ionizing and bolometric energy output of its core {size <= 4 pc} could be dominated by a massive stellar cluster of young stars, as implied by the STIS UV spectrum.
NGC 4303 will also be one of the few Seyferts for which the mass enclosed within the inner few pc would have been determined independently from stellar and gas kinematics.

The examples show fractal dimensions of 50 contours generated for different intensity values for an elliptical galaxy (NGC 4374) and a spiral galaxy (NGC4303).
The average correlation dimension is significantly lower for the elliptical galaxy than the spiral relating to its less complex structure.
The average capacity dimension on the other hand is higher for the elliptical than the spiral galaxy, which contradicts our expectation.

The abundance gradient in NGC 4303 is identical to that found in normal spiral galaxies.
A comparison is made between the O/H gradients of normal galaxies and of a sample of galaxies showing a barred morphology it is concluded that the global abundance gradients of spiral galaxies with a barred structure are in general shallower than gradients of normal galaxies.
