M3   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-17)
M3, or NGC 5272, is one of the most outstanding globular clusters, containing an estimated half million stars.
It is located in the constellation Canes Venaciti, midway between Cor Caroli and Arcturus, and is extremely rich in variable stars: 212 variables have been found, more than in any other globular cluster in our Milky Way galaxy.
M3 lies 30,600 light years away and has a magnitude of 6.3.
