The results of UBV CCD photometry is presented for the open stellar cluster NGC 6913 (M29).
A luminosity and a mass function are calculated for NGC 6913, but with a degree of uncertainty, due to the problems with field subtraction.
Gamma for NGC 6913 was also found to be in good correspondence with the field IMF of Salpeter (1955), having Gamma = -1.35, and thus lends evidence to the concept of there being a universal IMF for both cluster and general field star-forming regions.

The NGC 6913 region shows a real O-B star cluster at a distance of 1.6 kpc which presumably is associated with the P Cygni aggregate.
The NGC 6910 region shows a strong concentration of O-B stars at 2.1 kpc, possibly related to the group in the NGC 6913 field, and a distant group at 3.3 kpc.
Most of the four magnitudes of interstellar absorption shown by the B stars in both NGC 6910 and NGC 6913 is found to lie between 1.0 and 1.6 kpc and is presumably the edge of the great rift in cygnus.

M29 (NGC 6913) is an open cluster, quite a lackluster Messier of about half a dozen eighth magnitude stars shaped like a square.
The cluster is found 1.5 degrees south of gamma Cygni (and a couple of arc mintues to the east)...
NGC 6910 is not quite as bright, or even as large as M29, but it is comparable...

The ((U-B), (B-V)) colour-colour diagrams of NGC 6913 are plotted in Fig.
Considering the distance of NGC 6913 to be 1.08 kpc, to avoid removing the real cluster members, a distance of 1.0 kpc is used to do the preliminary work.
As NGC 6913 is at galactic coordinate l=76.92, b=+0.61, from the NK relation between distance and optical extinction Av in different regions of sky a value of Av of about 2.0 is derived (field 286(76/+1) in NK), corresponding to a value of E(B-V)=0.65 if we assume R=3.1.

Between 1996 and 2003 we have obtained 226 high resolution spectra of 16 stars in the field of the young open cluster NGC 6913, to the aim of constraining its main properties and study its internal kinematics.
Twelve of the program stars turned out to be members, one of them probably unbound.
All discovered binaries are hard enough to survive average close encounters within the cluster and do not yet show sign of relaxation of the orbital elements to values typical of field binaries.

Reddening is estimated on the basis of spectral classification.
The variable extinction across NGC 6913 is analyzed and discussed.
A large part of the values of interstellar reddening of the stars in NGC 6913 from spectral classification are quite different from those taken from photometry (especially for early B and F type stars); the largest discrepancy amounts to 1.48 mag..

 Clusters, Clusters Everywhere
This is an open cluster of stars known as M29, or NGC 6913.
If you have to move two degrees, for instance, and the telescope/eyepiece combination you are using has a field of view of one degree, it is a simple matter of traveling two fields of view from one object to another.
This is NGC 6811, and it is found close enough to the pole star to be classified as a circumpolar object, meaning it can be always be found somewhere in the northern sky, as seen from anywhere in the world at our latitude.

Star-Hop #7, M27, NGC 6852, the "Dumbbell Nebula." The star hop to the planetary nebula, M27, in the 4th magnitude constellation Vulpecula, is a natural continuation of a star-hop from Albireo to Vega, except in the opposite direction.
