  NGC 7000 (North America Nebula)
In the north-western part of the North America Nebula, NGC 6989 has been detected by William Herschel (H VIII.82, GC 4613) on September 11, 1790.
In its northern part, young open cluster NGC 6996 has formed; this cluster has been discovered by John Herschel (h 2094, GC 4619) before 1833.
Stars west of the nebula (beyond its "East Coast") form young open cluster NGC 6997 which was found by William Herschel (H VIII.58, GC 4629) on October 24, 1786 (the same day he probably found the nebula), which have probably formed from the same interstellar cloud.

NGC 6960 è la parte più facile da trovare in quanto è praticamente sovrapposta alla stella 52 Cyg, mentre NGC 6992 è la parte più luminosa localizzabile a 2,5° est e 0,5° nord dalla stessa stella.

Another (dark) nebula, NGC 3324, the Keyhole Nebula, is superimposed on NGC 3372.
Visually, distinguished by a dark band that crosses its center, As a strong radio source, it is known as Centaurus A, emiting more than 1000 times as much radio energy as the Milky Way.
The nearest and brightest Planetary Nebula is NGC 7293 in Aquarius, which was not included in Messier's list.

This beautiful object, a combination of an emission nebula (NGC 6618) and open cluster (also NGC 6618), was discovered by Chesaux in the spring of 1746, before it was rediscovered by Messier in June of the same year.
NGC 253 is 30′x 7′, with a visual magnitude of 7.6 and a surface brightness of 13.2.

Project Observing List - NGC 7000 thru NGC 7840
Although clearly shown on the sketch, the 29 Sept 1875 observation states "the object preceding in the 1857 sketch is a faint star, night bad." Because of this last statement, MT feels Dreyer decided to not include this object in the NGC as N7431 is attributed to Bigourdan.
Listed in NGC although Dreyer was aware that this object was not found by d'Arrest or Schultz (notes in Micrometric Observations).
This gx is identified in CGCG (431-50) as IC 1485 and in MCG (+02-59-032) as IC 1484 (this is incorrect as IC 1484 is a fainter galaxy WNW).
