NGLTF and its peace-loving comrades worry that a war "will increase human suffering, arouse animosity toward our country, increase the likelihood of terrorist attacks, damage the economy and undermine our moral standing in the world." In fact, a war is more likely to do the opposite of all these things.
NGLTF's only explanation of the connection between a potential Iraq war and gay rights is this: "In the aftermath of Sept. 11, we have become increasingly alarmed," said NGLTF Executive Director Lorri Jean in a press release.
NGLTF did not specify which rights it believes have been "gutted" -- courts have upheld almost every step taken so far to increase domestic security -- but they evidently don't include the right to issue non sequiturs in press releases.

Concerned Women for America - ‘Gay’ Group Slashes Homosexual Partner Benefits for Own Employees
Glenn said NGLTF officials' "glaring hypocrisy" — revealed March 7 in a lead story by the Blade — will be extremely helpful in his and other pro-family groups' efforts to oppose the adoption of so-called "domestic partner" benefits by private employers and state and local governments.
"NGLTF Director Lorri Jean's admission that same-sex benefits for her own employees were 'prohibitively expensive' is now Exhibit A in the case we'll make to employers concerned about the rising cost of health care," he said.
Glenn said it is NGLTF's private rather than its public position on the issue that reflects the economic realities of adding to an employer's "insurance pool" new individuals whose homosexual lifestyle makes them more likely to be disproportionate consumers of healthcare services, thus driving up premium costs for the pool of employees as a whole.

Several months after assuming her position in 2001, NGLTF executive director Lorri Jean recommended the reduction in health coverage for domestic partners as part of a cost cutting effort, because she saw them as "prohibitively expensive," according to the Washington Blade newspaper.
The NGLTF, upset that conservative groups are now making an issue of the domestic partner benefit cutback, issued a press release denouncing the "miscommunication campaign tactics of [the] right wing." But the group did not dispute the fact of the case.
LaBarbera called the NGLTF a group on "the fringe of the fringe in the gay movement" and said the organization prides itself on taking what it considers principled stands within the homosexual movement.

The correct analogy, the one that NGLTF mysteriously chooses not to make, is between a defined-benefit pension plan (which Social Secuirty essentially is), and a defined-contribution pension account such as a 401(k) account or an IRA, which can be inherited by spouses or by unmarried gay couples (assuming a well-crafted will).
Finally, the NGLTF conveniently omits that the White House's proposal exempts anyone over the age of 55 from any changes in Social Security anyway — Granpa Walton's checks are safe.
Of course, the real agenda of the NGLTF with respect to Social Security is the same as every other liberal group's — petty partisan politics: Say whatever needs to be said, omit whatever needs to be omitted, twist whatever needs to be twisted, to block Social Security reform at all costs.
