  GameSpy.com - Review
With the series' latest chapter, I'm happy to report that the decision is a complete no-brainer.
NHL 2004 delivers a much more authentic representation of the fastest game on ice and this is reflected in its tight checking action (low-scoring games are now the norm) and truer-to-life gameplay mechanics.
As with past versions, the configurability of NHL 2004 is extensive and everything from the overall AI difficulty to puck elasticity and friction can be set with a series of easily adjustable sliders.

 GamingWorld X - NHL 2004 Preview
After reviews showed that Electronic Arts NHL 2003 got crushed into the boards by Sega’s NHL 2K3 (though it still outsold the competition…) it was pretty much guaranteed that EA would come back this year with a greatly improved product.
Presentation is one of the strong points in most of EA’s longrunning series, and the NHL one is no exception.
NHL 2003 had solid commentary and a quality audio/visual package with few weak points, and things look to improve a bit this year.

Well, almost 10 years have passed and the NHL series is still going strong, but in most recent times many hardcore fans have been disenchanted with the tendency toward arcade style play.
NHL 98 was unrealistically fast, NHL 99 was too slow and had super goalies and NHL 2000 was in the middle.
NHL 2001 is by no means the perfect product, and hockey fans are still waiting for their NFL 2K1 or their ISS Pro Evolution — a videogame that accurately reflects their sport.

Midway's NHL Hitz series is only a couple of years old now, and already the company has endeavored to give it a massive overhaul.
NHL Hitz Pro is the first result of this experiment, and, thankfully, Midway has not "done its hockey series wrong." The game is an excellent blend of the two styles of play and has enough options, on either side, to appeal to hockey fans of any sensibility.
NHL Hitz Pro includes a number of simulation elements never before found in the series, like, for instance, realistic rules.

Despite the AI issues that continue to plague the series, NHL 2003 is a fun and realistic hockey game.

NHL 06 Hands-On - GameCube News at GameSpot
The most obvious addition to the NHL 06 roster of features is the skill stick, a mechanic that continues EA Sports' trend of making more-prominent use of the right analog stick on the PS2, Xbox, and GameCube controllers in its sports games.
Another noticeable control tweak in NHL 06 is the ability to deke from side to side, manually, using the left analog stick (similar to how you did it way back in NHL 94 on the Sega Genesis).
Anyway, the inclusion of NHL 94 is a nice gesture for fans of the NHL series who always hearken back to that installment as a classic in the series.

For the first 90 minutes of the series it seemed as though the Soviets had left their legs back in Moscow; the NHL players easily beat them to the puck and completely disrupted their normally crisp pass plays.
The NHL switched to Boston's Gerry Cheevers, whose stickhandling outside the net was expected to help the NHL defense cope with the Soviet ploy of dumping the puck in and chasing it.
The NHL wanted to test the inexperienced - and no doubt nervous - Myshkin early, but the Soviets provided him with such solid checking support that he didn't even see a shot until the period was more than eight minutes old.

After coming out with such a great game like NHL '94, its kind of hard to believe that the same company released a game as horrible as NHL ’95.

The players in the game look and skate very awkwardly, they are difficult to control, and the passes never go where you want them to.

NHL hitz had the same puck physics as NHL 07 and i remember having so much fun with that game.

Series 8 of the NHL McFarlane Sportspicks figures (the eleventh hockey series if you include the two NHLPA and the Team Canada sets) is the second set to be made available to Canadian retailers only.
The only gripe I do have with this set, and indeed some of the figures in the last few series, is that they are simply repaints of earlier figures with maybe a remolded face to look like the new player.
Having said that, it is only a minor point and one that I can certainly live with if it means the series continues as a whole - it certainly won’t stop me buying them if I can get hold of them on release.
