New Jersey Roads - NJ 35 - SB
NJ 71 multiplexes with NJ 35 for another block or two to the south, and then goes off again, before ending once more at 35 further south, making the only NJ routes that intersect each other three times (other than freeway/surface route pairs and US 46/Garden State Parkway).
NJ 36 begins here, thus intersecting NJ 35 twice, and NJ 444R connects it to the Garden State Parkway.
Compare this to the one on the NJ 35 main page, and while this one was taken a couple of years later, you'll see from the four trees on the left that I managed to take them in exactly the same spot (and same direction).

 NJ 38 Freeway (unbuilt)
The NJ 38 Freeway, as the proposal came to be known, was to provide a direct, controlled-access route from points east.
In 1965, the NJ 38 Freeway was adopted as part of the proposed "Central Jersey Expressway System," a network that was to serve the central and southern parts of the state.
At its western terminus in Mount Laurel Township, Burlington County, the NJ 38 Freeway was to provide connections to the New Jersey Turnpike and the proposed NJ 90 Freeway extension.

The newly combined NJ 18 Freeway was to be a 48-mile, north-south route from the intersection of NJ 34, NJ 35 and NJ 70 in Brielle to I-287 in Bound Brook.
NJ 18 is to be widened from six to eight lanes over the 1.2-mile-long section from NJ 27 south to NJ 172, creating a 2-2-2-2 configuration for local and express traffic.

Pictures of the Middlesex Freeway (NJ 440)
The connection to the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95) is technically with only the NJ 440 section, since the ramp to the turnpike does not physically split from the freeway until after the turnpike overpass.
This is the Middlesex Freeway (NJ 440) southbound south of Exit 1(I-95, CR 514, New Jersey Turnpike, Woodbridge) in Edison Township.
Here, the NJ 440 designation ends and the I-287 designation begins as the freeway passes over the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95), the ramp from which is merging with the roadway from the right.

On a related note, there is talk of upgrading I-195 from its current end at NJ 34 (Exit 34, ironially) to NJ 35 along current NJ 138.
Should that ever happen, NJ 18 could be upgraded to possibly I-395, but I don't anticipate that in my lifetime.
