  NOHAB-GM Foundation - Worldwide Historic Overview   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
With a few exceptions, all of NOHAB's streamlined cab locomotives were originally equipped with steam heating and a large water tank typical for the American FP7/9.
A striking difference in the external appearance of the machines as built was the lack of headlights on top of the nose (later added to some units in many different ways, aside from a pair of red tail lights), which may look unusual to a spectator accustomed to the American EMD cabs.
The heavy underframe instead of the side wall bracing of previous NOHAB's was also apparent on the latter units as was the presence of a mechanically driven cooler.

Between 1921 and 1924 NOHAB manufactured 500 locomotives for Russia.
NOHAB was still a major manufacturer of turbines for power plants and well known for medium size ship engines.
NOHAB also manufactured the hulls for the S-tank.

In 1965 NoHAB was informed by GM about the new type 645 diesel engine, which was more powerful than it's precessor, type 567.
NoHAB altered the new design so that the new type 645 diesel engine could be included.
Besides NoHAB, the Spanish manufacturer Macose built class JT26C locomotives for the Spanish railways under licence of GM and NoHAB.

NOHAB locomotive were also delivered to Hungary GM and Nohab sent a test locomotive on a trial run through Eastern Europe and Turkey.
To Hungarian MAV were delivered 20 Nohab locomotives M61 001 through M61 020.
Today Nohab locomotives are in service in Sweden and Germany, these are former DSB locomotives.

This page will give an overview of the NOHAB and AFB HO models that I have in my collection.
The demo model came to Norway in 1955 and was fitted with the NSB logo on the nose.
When it went back to NOHAB later that year the NSB logo was replaced by the NOHAB/GM logo found on the Märklin model.

In the beginning the successfully rebuilt M61 NOHAB (base-model was delivered by PIKO) was quite popular despite these early M61s were more suitable as a vitrine-model than for every-day use.
Although we acquired the base-models a long time ago and at different times, both our models will be -unfortunatelly- delivered in the same time, because in case of both locomotives we have to carry out many major changes before they really look like the original MÁV-engine.
The big number of pre-purchased items and the great interest towards our upcoming M61 Nohab serie makes it necessary -considering the limited amount of base-models- to ask our customers to concretize their needs.

 SJ - NoHAB-GM pictures
SJ, the Swedish State Railway Company ordered Diesel-locomotives from NoHAB in large numbers.
10 units of this type were built for SJ by NoHAB during the mid-fifties.
All locos were whitdrawn from regular traffic, but none of them were cut up, most are preserved by different Museums and some of them, like the 10 are still in operating conditions.

 Norway
The 641 (Nohab 2402) originally was meant for testing by the Finish VR on broad gauge.
As VR didn't choose for the Nohab locomotives, the NSB took over the Nohab 2402, 2416 and 2417 (the latter two were being built beforehand for VR and were nearly completed when VR lost interest) after conversion to normal gauge.
Former NSB Di3.630 will be scrapped after it suffered major damage due to a runaway on the isle of Sicilia on 10 March 2006.

 Nohab
The Danish liveried Nohab No.1143 was spotted from our train whilst we were departing from Dusseldorf Hbf on our way from Oberhausen to Koblenz on September 27, 2005.
We baled out at the first stop and returned to luckily find it still there and ready to run round its train.
