	NOTAM - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		NOTAM or NoTAM is the quasi-acronym for a "Notice To Airmen" at the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
		A NOTAM is filed with the FAA to alert aircraft pilots of any specific hazards or conditions at a specific location.
		NOTAMs are issued (and reported) due to tower lights being inoperable, for example.

	The Notam Mess
		When an FSS briefer "checks notams" for an airport, he or she is usually looking at notam Ds, so you can be confident of getting them reliably.
		Notam Ls are less critical and have to do with things like minor taxiway changes, airport construction, bird activity and so forth.
		FSS briefers also know something that you might not: Notam Ds for airports that don't report weather are found not under their individual identifiers but under the "notam file" section for that airport listed in the A/FD.

	NOTAM
		NOTAM serves the art community in various ways: through making studios, labs and technical assistance available at no or low cost, through building hardware and software for specific purposes, through educational efforts for children, youth and students at universities and music academies, and through advicement for doctoral students and international guests.
		NOTAM produces a number of events every year, conferences, concerts, installations, a lecture-series with weekly presentations.

	Air Safety Week: Death by NOTAM
		Hundreds of such notices are published weekly, and pilots are expected to check the NOTAM database before they fly for the latest information on potential hazards.
		A pilot could enter the planned flight route and/or operating area, and all the relevant NOTAMs would be displayed by category and danger level, in order of encounter (origin, route, destination) and geographically (on a chart).
		The existing NOTAM system is like the agency's aviation safety databases - formless, of unknown dimensions and content, containing a wealth of knowledge but rather like an encyclopedia without an alphabetical layout or a sophisticated search technology.

	NOTAM
		A NOTAM is a notice from the FAA to pilots of conditions that may pertain to their flight.
		The notam establishing the TFR was not issued until late the night before and the effective time was extended that very morning.
		Pilots are cautioned that it is imperative that this NOTAM be followed to the letter, as a violation of this airspace may not only jeopardize their certificate, but may also expose them to the possibility of armed interception by military aircraft.

		Notam 3/1244 states that pilots conducting traffic pattern operations will be exempt from the ATC communication requirement provided they monitor the airport CTAF.
		However, pilots will still be required to file and activate a flight plan and be required to squawk a discrete transponder code.
		The NOTAM states that pilots have to "activate" their flight plan "at the appropriate time." For VFR departures, would that be before or after takeoff, by radio, with FSS?

		This NOTAM is especially valuable for pilots flying to AirVenture, since it outlines all information necessary to legally and safely fly to the event.
