	Privacy Code of Practice: Department of Housing - Privacy NSW : Lawlink NSW
		The Department of Housing is required to investigate the truth or otherwise of the allegations concerning a particular tenant.
		Where the Department of Housing holds personal information, it must not use the information without taking such steps as are reasonable in the circumstances to ensure that, having regard to the purpose for which the information is proposed to be used, the information is relevant, accurate, up to date, complete and not misleading.
		The Department of Housing must not disclose personal information relating to an individual's ethnic or racial origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, health or sexual activities unless the disclosure is necessary to prevent a serious or imminent threat to the life or health of the individual concerned or another person.

	Crime and Public Housing Seminar, CityFUTUREs, FBE
		Housing and Housing Systems Initiatives, responsible for oversight and management of development of policy and programs; and leadership in development of new initiatives, and contributing to the development of affordable housing Queensland.
		With assistance from the Victorian Department of Communities and the NSW Premier’s Department Professor Vinson recently completed a study of the geographic distribution of social disadvantage designed, among other things, to monitor the impact of community level interventions that he helped to instigate with a similar study in 1999.

		Antoinetta and her family have been offered another house by the department, but she is unwillingly to go because they will not pay adequate compensation for her lost possessions.
		She complained to the department and they sent out a pest controller who put dust into the 10 metre gap where the birds had flown in and jammed 1.5 metres of chicken wire into the gap.

	UNSW: The University of New South Wales - Sydney Australia - News - Community gardens reap a bountiful harvest
		The NSW Department of Housing and the University of New South Wales have published a book and CD based on the results of a four-year study of the gardens at the Waterloo Public Housing Estate.
		The gardens are one of the early initiatives of a partnership between the NSW Department of Housing and UNSW, which, for the past eight years, has run a Community Development Project at Waterloo and Redfern involving students and academics.
		Ms Carol Mills, Executive Director Housing Systems for the NSW Department of Housing, says that a study of this significance will go a long way in ensuring the future success of community gardens, and will encourage the Department to continue with its community greening partnerships.

	Smokefree housing Australia ASH
		The largest landlord in Australia, the NSW Department of Housing, has announced its smokefree policy - after 18 months of consultation with peak tenant groups.
		This policy should be brought to the attention of housing authorities in other states as a means of improving living conditions for all public housing tenants.
		In the case of Salerno v Proprietors of Strata Plan No. 42724 (8 BPR 15,457) settled in the NSW Supreme Court on 8 April 1997, the court ruled that it was within the power of the Owners Corporation to ban smoking by both occupants and visitors.

		Mr Fraser says the Government is wrong to hold housing for prison inmates, when thousands of people on the north coast are waiting for public housing.
		The NSW Department of Housing policy that covers the issue of holding tenancies for "jailbirds" can be found on the Department's website at: http://www.housing.nsw.gov.au/ under the title, "Absence from Dwelling".
		The policy further states that the Department will consider each case on its merits, eg if the reason for imprisonment is related to a breach of the Tenancy Agreement the Department will commence action to terminate the tenancy.

	Bribes aided housing bids, inquiry told - smh.com.au
		A NSW Department of Housing employee solicited bribes of up to $8000 to "springboard" applications by disadvantaged people, a corruption inquiry heard yesterday.
		In her opening statement, counsel assisting the commission, Frances Backman, said the inquiry would focus on Mr Klimoski, whose activities were "geared to receiving corrupt payments" for processing the applications.
		Another $4000 was to be paid by the woman when she got the keys to her property, which she would pay $60 to $70 a week to rent, the commission heard.
