Hudson was the name given to the 4-6-4 steam locomotive wheel arrangement by the New York Central Railroad (NYC) who were the first to use locomotives of this type in North America.
Finally he spoke, "Let's call her the Hudson, after the Hudson River." I agreed immediately (not that it mattered) and that's how it was.
The Hudson came into being because the existing 4-6-2 "Pacific" power was not able to keep up with the demands of longer, heavier trains and faster speeds.

The "Hendrick Hudson Memorial Bridge" (as it was called then) was to be completed in time for the 300th anniversary of Hudson's voyage in 1909.
Since Moses was planning to finance the construction of the Henry Hudson Bridge through the sale of bonds of the Henry Hudson Parkway Authority he had had the Legislature create, he would have to have tolls on the bridge to pay off the bonds.

We were delighted to have the opportunity to review the much publicized NYC Hudson steam locomotive with sound produced by Broadway Limited, the newest entrant into the DCC manufacturing arena.
The major difference between the Hudson and other sound equipped locomotives is that all of the major sound effects that can be employed in DCC operation work just as well on non-DCC layouts.
Since the NYC used the Hudson almost exclusively in passenger and mail service, we judged the overall pulling power of our unit as quite good.

The Hudsons were the backbone of the great steel fleet that plied the iron between New York and Chicago.
The 4-6-4 Hudson evolved from the 4-6-2 Pacific through "superpowering" by adding a larger firebox, and the extra trailing truck axle that was required as a result, much at the 2-8-2 Mikado evolved to the 2-8-4 Berkshire.
Above are a couple of shots of the streamlined Hudson designed to pull what is arguably the most famous train of the New York Central, the Twentieth Century Limited, that ran from New York to Chicago in 20 hours.

The Hudson Yards rezoning plan for Manhattan's West Side has officially begun the public review process, and the draft of the environmental impact study has been completed.
In addition, the review also covers the creation of a Special Hudson Yards District that allows gradually increasing density going west from Ninth Avenue, design controls, floor area bonuses to encourage affordable housing and the relocation of municipal facilities beneath the new parkland.
And, in the next 20 years it will result in $13.7 billion in private investment, $2.2 billion in new annual revenue for the city and the state, 110,000 new jobs in Hudson Yards, 92,000 jobs in the rest of the city and 80, 000 construction jobs from private development.

Emergences is an ongoing project of site-specific sculpture installations that I am creating on the shores of the Hudson River.
Although each installation is site-specific, they all consist of natural stones arranged to reveal the rythmic cycles of emergence and submergence created twice a day by the river tides.

It seems the 4-6-2 with NYC identification are few and far between so I might consider a 4-6-4 NYC Hudson.
Block and Roman are different types of lettering 'fonts', I believe NYC used Roman then later in the steam era switched to Block.
As for the James Whitcomb Riley and it's 4-6-2 Pacific's, the closest you could come (except for brass??) might be a Bowser NYC K-11....

NYC #2380 GP-9 and the C&O "Yellow-Belly" Hudson (which is actually running on my layout right now) both from 1995.
This means nearly 10 years of running on demand as needed, but we are not talking about engines that must run day after day for hour upon hour, nothing like that harsh usage.

The Chelsea gallery district (SoHo has been left to the trendy boutiques that can afford the outrageous rents) is block after block of decaying warehouses, practically in the Hudson river.
Grimy workers unload trucks on 13th St., the afternoon rain has stopped and a group of punk looking art lovers are milling about in front of the Trans-Hudson Gallery, smoking cigarettes.

I made a reservation at the Hudson Hotel in NYC.
I paid for Saturday night and when I got my AMEX bill Hudson hotel charged me a no show fee equal to another nights stay for not showing on Friday.
I tried to get a hold of The Hudson but was unable to speak to anyone other than voice mail and they never called back.
