In This Subway Series, NYU Law Vies With Columbia - March 8, 2006 - The New York Sun
NYU has quietly lured away three top professors from New York's Ivy League law school, while Columbia's law school is in the quiet phase of a more than $300 million capital campaign to grow its 75-person faculty by half over 10 years, without increasing its student body.
NYU School of Law announced yesterday that one of the world's top professors of law and philosophy, Jeremy Waldron, would leave Columbia to join its faculty in fall 2006.
Revesz said professors normally chose to move based on how supportive a school may be of their work and "what benefits the school's intellectual community can bring to their work." He said reduced teaching loads and more frequent sabbaticals are never used to sweeten job offers.

 UMKC School of Law
On April 7, 2006, the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law hosted scholars and practioners from all across the country for a class action symposium in honor of the twentieth anniversary of the Supreme Court’s landmark class action decision in Shutts v.
The purpose of the symposium was to discuss where class action law is headed in the new millennium.
The panel on securities class actions was one of the most lively, with Columbia law professor Jack Coffee making a compelling case that the securities class action was badly in need of reform because it has led to neither much compensation to the victims of fraud nor much deterrence of wrongdoers in corporate management.

Q It was the case that if graduate and professional schools, like law schools, gave grants to students while they were in school in the United States, that was a tax-free event.
But if we gave to students after they got out of school and chose to go into public service, something that you've encouraged for a long time, if we gave them grants to help them repay the enormous debt that a law school education in the United States costs, that was taxable.
