Topic: Nadi (yoga)

Nadi (yoga) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nadis are sometimes viewed as extending only to the skin of the body, but are often thought to extend to the boundary of the aura.
The Ida and Pingala nadis are often seen as referring to the two hemispheres of the brain.
The two nadis are stimulated through the practice of Pranayama, which involves alternate breathing through left and right nostrils, which would alternately stimulate respectively the left and right sides of the brain.

There are many nadi, but in the context of kundalini we need only concern ourselves with the three most important ones: ida, pingala, and sushumna, all three of which run along the spine.
In tantra yoga the emphasis is on certain energies that are normally squandered being directed in such a way that they can reduce the blocks that stand in the way of the prana.
In tantra yoga the focus is on the body, and a wide range of connections and relationships between the body and other aspects of the world and cosmos is made.

The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis, that the breathing exercise Nadi Shodana improves the balance between the two brain halves as reflected by the alpha R/L ratio.
On the basis of our results we therefore conclude that Nadi Shodana, if it is done regularly over a longer period of time, has a favourable influence on the balance between the brain halves and thereby an emotionally stabilising effect on the individual.
In the inexperienced group the values after Nadi Shodana showed greater variance, which entails that this result is not statistically significant (even though their average for the temporal area is the same as the optimal value).
