On October 11, 2005, the towns of Tamba, Mizuho and Wachi from Funai District merged to form the new town of Kyotamba.
On January 1, 2006, the towns of Hiyoshi, Sonobe and Yagi from Funai District and the town of Miyama from Kitakuwada District merged to form the new city of Nantan.
On March 1, 2006, the towns of Kaya, Iwataki and Nodagawa from Yosa District merged to form the new town of Yosano.

On October 1, 2004 the village of Hongawa from Tosa District and the village of Gohoku from Agawa District merged with the old town of Ino (also from Agawa District) to form the new town of Ino in Agawa District.
On August 1, 2005 the town of Ikegawa and the village of Agawa (both from Agawa District) and the village of Niyodo from Takaoka District merged to form the new town of Niyodogawa in Agawa District.
On March 20, 2006, the municipalities of Kubokawa from Takaoka District and Taisho and Towa from Hata District merged to form the new town of Shimanto in Takaoka District.

 Chosokabe Motochika
Motochika was born at Oko Castle in the Nagaoka district of Tosa, the eldest son of Chosokabe Kunichika (1503-1560).
While being careful to remain ostensibly loyal to the Ichijô over the next few years, Motochika's power grew to the extent that he was strong enough to march on the rival Aki clan of east Tosa with 7,000 men and bring them to bear in 1569.
While still lord of the Hata district of Tosa, Ichijô Kanesada (1542-1585) was unpopular and had already suffered the defection of a number of important retainers.

The Nara period of the 8th century marked the first strong Japanese state, centered around an imperial court, in the city of Heijo-kyo (now Nara).
