About sixty percent of Nagaokakyo's geographical area consists of habitable flat land, with the remaining forty percent consisting of a mountainous region to the west.
Nagaokakyo is blessed with facilities for travel: the Hankyu Kyoto Line runs through the central region, and the JR Toukaido Line, Meishin Expressway and National Highway 171 run longitudinally through the eastern region.
With a mild, comfortable climate characteristic of the Yamashiro Basin, Nagaokakyo is an urban town in close proximity to metropolitan areas, a city in which natural abundance and high technology coexist.

 Nagaokakyo of Japan
On the tenth anniversary of the establishment of sister-city relation between the two cities, Nagaokakyo expressed the intention to build a lotus pond in Nagaokakyo to commemorate the two cities' friendship and asked Ningbo to provide it with seeds and knowledge.
Ningbo gave Nagaokakyo 150 plants of West Lake red lotus and sent on March 26 1996 a horticulturist to Nagaokakyo as instructor.
Nagaokakyo donated 4 million yen to cooperate with Ningbo in building a garden of Japanese style in Ningbo to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the establishment of sister-city relation between the two cities.

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Japan’s prize-winning Nagaokakyo Chamber Ensemble will present a concert featuring the Chicago-area debut of violin prodigy Ryu Goto, younger brother of celebrated violinist Midori.
The 12-member Nagaokakyo Chamber Ensemble was formed in 1997 by violinist and teacher Yuko Mori.
She serves as the music director of the ensemble and will conduct the Sept. 28 concert.

In this Otokuni region, centred by Nagaokakyo city, is the first region in Japan where Mousou bamboo was planted and is famous for its production of bamboo shoots.
The event began seven years ago in the aim of using the bamboo that have been cut to maintain the forest in good condition, as it was lying in ruins for the last couple of years.

Prior to the event's official opening, the temple's maple trees were illuminated by bamboo lanterns and lights in a special exhibition for the press and other guests on November 16.
There is an admission fee of 500 yen for high school age and over; there is no charge for junior high school age and under.
