Chiba Prefecture was established on June 15, 1873 with the merger of Kisarazu Prefecture and Inba Prefecture.

Nagareyama city in Chiba Prefecture adopted its emblem: 19 March 1957 by Notice No 8-2.
According to the page Nozomi mentioned and the notice, the emblem is a symbol of the Edo River and the nature of running along the river, a stylised water current (the 流 of Nagareyama) is abbreviated according to a dictionary of characters used in seals, showing the main current of the Edo River.
This is combined with a mountain (山 yama) in the centre, made into an ornament for the water of the current, to make a shape expressing Nagareyama City.
