Midnight Eye review: Getting Wild With Our Monkey (2002, Hideaki SUNAGA)
After his wife leaves him to go study in England, Sashi (Masatoshi Nagase) has the worst trouble simply keeping the house in order, something that severely hampers his creativity.
From the moment we meet him, his non-existent household skills have manoeuvred him into an impasse: his neglect has caused the trash to pile to the ceiling and the moths have transformed into Cronenbergian mutations that nibble at his flesh, but no end to his writer's block is in sight.
The one-man show performance by Masatoshi Nagase at its center embodies the film's central theme: the isolation that befalls those who do not fit the social mould fashioned around the lowest common denominator.

Modern Japan - Famous Japanese - Nagase Masatoshi
Nagase Masatoshi is perhaps 'the' Japanese indie actor.
The best of these was the series for cup noodles in which Nagase was placed, a la Forest Gump or Woody Allen's Zelig, in famous scenes from the 20th century, noodles in hand.
With almost 20 movies under his belt and a solid acting reputation, Nagase will probably continue to be one of the faces of Japan in the international movie scene for some time.

 [KFCC] Dead End Run Review
The second follows Masatoshi Nagase as he battles himself and a killer.
Masatoshi Nagase’s character never spoke a word in “Shadows,” which seemed to be the weakest of the three films.
The chase also ends in an alley where Nagase’s character has his final showdown with a man who changes his guise to become a mirror image of Nagase.

[KFCC] Electric Dragon 80,000 Volts Review
While he spends the short duration of the film bursting with energy in a fittingly electric fashion, Masatoshi Nagase (the Yin to "Dragon Eye" Morrison's Yang) trails through the movie in a more subdued fashion.
The contrast is at it's most noticeable when Asano is maniacally and, to him, therapeutically grinding away on his guitar, while elsewhere, "Thunderbolt Buddha" is literally floating down the street, with absolutely no expression on his face, as if in a trance.
The culmination of the film comes in the form of Asano Vs. Nagase at the end, which is what you've been waiting for the whole time.

The Hidden Blade [VCD] VCD | dir.: Yoji Yamada (Yamada Yoji) | cast: Masatoshi Nagase, Takako Matsu, Hidetaka Yoshioka, ...
Masatoshi Nagase (Gojoe) stars as a samurai whose swordplay skills have drawn him into a violent series of events, just as he falls in love with a lower-caste woman.
In the mid-19th century, during the final days of the Shoguns and the Samurais, the winds of change blowing throughout the country are beginning to be felt even in the Unasaka domain, a small fief on the northwest coast of Japan's main island.

Midnight Eye review: Ubume ('Ubume no Natsu', 2005, Akio JISSOJI)
He directs his actors to speak as fast as humanly possible, then films their motormouthed monologues as distractingly as possible, so that it becomes completely impossible to figure out what the hell Kyogokudo is on about.
Masatoshi Nagase, left with the unenviable task of being completely integral to the story and yet not being allowed to say or do much of anything, manages to convey an immense amount through body language and extremely subtle movements of his face.
It doesn't really come together as a performance, because the screenwriters and director have chosen to completely remove the source of his madness, apparently deciding the movie couldn't survive a main character who believes he has raped a girl.

If this film reminds one of Jim Jarmusch's Mystery Train, it may be because both films feature Cold Fever's star, Masatoshi Nagase.

 Electric Dragon 80000V
Asano and Nagase obviously enjoyed their roles as (respectively) "Dragon Eye" Jim Morrison and The Thunderbolt Buddha so much that they give flawlessly brilliant performances, full of fun and fire.
Masatoshi Nagase's character, The Thunderbolt Buddha, is slightly more well-adjusted (which, honestly, isn't saying much) and yet somehow infinitely more devious and evil, and he is accordingly cast as the anti-hero of the story.
Due to an accident he had as a little boy when he was struck by lightning whilst climbing a pylon, he got somehow charged up with 20 million volts of electricity, and entirely half of his body has had to be encased in metal, to earth him.

 - [ NEWS ] @ "Mika Nakashima Getting Married?" -
[ Asahi News ] Nagase Masatoshi and Mika Nakashima were both photographed in March when the two were secretly meeting up at a hotel.
Just last month, the couple were spotted at Aoyama on a shopping date; In which Nagase Masatoshi gave Mika Nakashima a 340,000 yen outfit as a gift.
Which is probably why there is no surprise when Masatoshi was so quick to say "yes" to Mika's proposal.
