Bunny huggers go ballistic when topsoil, river sand and dunes go charging into the sea, but one of the best things about sand is it's mobility (if it was supposed to be stable, it would interlock like miniature "dolosse").

Environmental impact and increasing city growth has already turned the Nahoon River into an open sewer when it rains heavily and sewerage systems designed and built for population figures that have long been passed, just cannot cope.

 Boy drowns in Nahoon River
East London - The body of a 13-year-old boy, who went missing earlier this week, was found in the Nahoon River in East London on Thursday, said Eastern Cape police.
Inspector Stephen Marais said the body of Sonwabile Gubanbe was found by police divers at 08:00, a day after he went missing in the river while swimming with his friends.
Marais urged parents to educate children who could not swim on the dangers of crossing rivers.

Keep well downstream of the river mouths though: they start off shallow but the channels drop away fast and if the tide is going out you will too.

According to the Dispatch newspaper, Richarch Tebbut from East London, England was paddling on the river when he saw a fisherman on the bank trying to pull in "a very big fish."
I got the shock of my life when I saw a big Zambezi shark, charging towards me. The shark quickly turned around, grabbed my left arm and lacerated it.
