Republic of Turkey, Ministry of Culture and Tourism - The Land of the Nairi
It was also referred to by the Assyrians as “the land of Uruadri”, and thus “the people of the Land of Uruadri”; the term “people of the Land of Nairi” was also used.
The Assyrian king stated that the 23 Nairi kings, whose countries lay between Tumme and the land of Daiaeni, marshalled their armies and advanced upon his army, ready for battle.
There are two further references in Assyrian sources to the lands of the Uruadri and Nairi before the ascent to the throne of Salmaneser III.

As a part of the land and people interchangeably called "The Nairi", Urartians were recognized as early as 2000 BC on Assyrian cuneiform as coming from the "land between the rivers", a land known to hold about 60 tribes and 100 cities.
Before Urartu were the Nairi, before the Nairi the Metsamor Kingdom, and before that untold numbers of now anonymous kingdoms and states that sprung from the Indo-European race born on the Armenian Plateau, spreading their language, ethnic identity and the secrets of bronze, iron and astronomy to both Asia and Europe.
Until their rise, Urartians were subservient to a tribe also called the Nairi, which were in turn one tribe among many, but they held a predominant position during the 2nd millennium BC, and became the namesake for the entire region.

 Nairi's camp
The officer, Nairi by name, was to go back to a camp close to Kelbadjar, in occupied Azeri territory, and the shortest way was to cross the mountains on the border with a jeep.
As we approached Kelbadjar, I experienced my first shock of war reality: still more and more houses of the town became visible, yet no people appeared on the road, not even the usual crowd of children shouting and warning that a car was approaching.
We stayed a couple of days in this isolated camp, having nothing to do, except advising Nairi on how to pile up the trunks in order to earn the biggest reward from the authorities in Yerevan.
