Nairn was one of the founding members of the Maverick Club, which has been such a benefit to Cimarron since the early 1920s.
Nairn busied himself with his library, which he boasted was "one of the finest private collections in the southwest." In 1936, he traveled to Scotland and visited the ruins of old Macbeth Castle, a part of the ancestral Nairn estate.
Nairn's remains were cremated and, together with the ashes of his long departed wife, they were buried near Lovers' Leap, a rock formation one mile west of Casa del Gavilan in Urraca Canyon.

The Nairn station, one of the first buildings to be erected in Nairn in 1889, was a large two story frame building with large living quarters attached to the office, waiting room and freight shed.
It was written on the occasion of the one hundredth anniversary of the Nairn Public School by Sandra Valiquette, secretary, with information she obtained from notes belonging to Dorothy Nelmes.
Edwards planted the coronation acorns at the Nairn Centre school last summer (1937), and delighted the school children with an account of the growth of many great oak trees which he had seen felled as a young man. He was a trustee of the school for many years.
