An American firm Dunavant Ltd, the new owners of Nakasongola Cotton Ginnery has unveiled a multi-million investment plan to uplift cotton industry in the district by financing farmers and providing market for all the produce.
Nakasongola Ginnery, which is the second biggest economic unit in the district after the Uganda People's Defence Forces owned Luweero Industries, came under the ownership of Dunavant two years.
Cotton, which used to be Nakasongola's major cash crop, had declined in the eighties due to lack of a steady market.

This multifaceted project is testing an approach that integrates economic development and environmental management with the overall goal of long-term conservation of fragile ecosystems and protected areas in the region.
