I am not a massive Talking Heads fan, but I love 'Remain in Light' and got this Best-of as well to sample all of their other albums at once.

Amazon.com: Talking Heads: 77: Music: Talking Heads
The Talking Heads are often remembered for their work after they had achieved stardom in the mid-1980s, such as Naked and Little Creatures, which are in my opinion very scattered and not nearly as good as what they put out from around 1977 to about 1982.
This is not Talking Heads' best album- fans tend to rate any one of their four subsequent studio releases - but it's definitely worth having.
This is Talking Heads' first album, and it's a fantastic one at that.

 Jerry Harrison
After the release of the Talking Heads' final album Naked in 1988, the focus of Jerry Harrison's activities shifted to his production work (although a third solo album Walking on Water and its associated tour were realized in 1990).
His schooling was soon interrupted a second time by an invitation to join Talking Heads, and after completing one more semester Harrison was lured, once and for all, into the life of a professional musician.
This lack of recorded output did not prevent The Modern Lovers from establishing a dedicated following through their live performances, and a posthumous 1976 album culled from sessions produced by both Cale and Alan Mason (seperately) proved to be a significant influence on the emerging punk/new-wave scene.

Amazon.com: The Best of Talking Heads [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED]: Music
The next album, "Naked," was as far from the band's New York roots as the South American music Byrne was then exploring could get.
However, with this band, any "greatest hits" package is superflous since nearly all of their original studio albums are essential (the exceptions being TRUE STORIES and the final album, NAKED).
Still, there was one more great album in the loose and poppy "Little Creatures," then the odd film, "True Stories," before the burn really hit.

Byrne's writing in Strange Ritual is similarly consistent with the work he produced with the Talking Heads (and as a solo recording artist).

The album True Stories was released after the fact, and featured the Talking Heads performing the songs from the movie.
Although released in 1986, which meant that it wasn't there last album, True Stories has always felt like a parting of the ways to me. The band felt like an afterthought to a David Byrne project, and although musically it sounds fine, there has always felt, to my ears, that something was missing.
I remember listening to "The Democratic Circus" when the album was first released, and literally a half-mile away from where I was sitting the G-8 leaders were meeting in Toronto.

From their raw energy as a quartet, to the nine-piece funk band and various stops on the way the Talking Heads were a unique musical experience that happens far to infrequently in pop music.
They wanted to capture a very specific sound for this album, one they knew couldn't be reproduced by the musicians at hand in the United States, so they went to where they could find the people they needed.

For Sale: Blind Leading the Naked
Accompanied by the unique musical stylings of The Horns of Dilemma and produced by the Talking Heads very own Jerry Harrison, The Blind Leading the Naked is a great album that introduces us to an entirely new type of sound from this always unpredictable and unorthodox trio of musical entrepreneurs.
The Blind Leading the Naked, the third album from the Violent Femmes, has never received the attention and acclaim it deserves.
The Blind Leading The Naked, VFs 3rd album, definitely follows in that tradition with songs such as "No Killing" and the ever-famous "Old Mother Reagan".

 Jerry Harrison
After the release of the Talking Heads' final album Naked in 1988, the focus of Jerry Harrison's activities shifted to his production work (although a third solo album Walking on Water and its associated tour were realized in 1990).
During a break from band activity in 1981, Harrison recorded his first solo effort The Red and the Black, an album which featured contributions from guitarist Adrian Belew, former P-Funk keyboardist Bernie Worrell and vocalist Nona Hendryx (all participants in the expanded Heads line-up that had recorded Remain in Light).
During this period Harrison also launched a parallel career as a record producer, helming sessions for The Blind Leading the Naked by The Violent Femmes, Milwaukee by Elliott Murphy, and producing several tracks for the Jonathan Demme film Something Wild (all three of which took place between 1985 and 1986).

Three more albums followed, 1985's Little Creatures, 1986's True Stories (Talking Heads covering all the soundtrack songs of Byrne's musical comedy film, in which the band also appeared) and 1988's Naked.
It was with their second album, 1978's More Songs About Buildings and Food that the band began its long-term collaboration with Brian Eno, one-time keyboard player for Roxy Music, latterly famous for his experimental, ambient art-pop and for collaborating on several respected albums for David Bowie.
During that time, however, the group was falling more and more under David Byrne's sway, and after Naked the band went on "hiatus".

TALKING HEADS : MusicWeb Encyclopaedia of Popular Music
Naked '88 was the first album by Talking Heads under a new EMI contract and their last album with Byrne, though nobody knew it then: Byrne refused to 'leave' the band and also refused to record with them; EMI sued them for breach of contract.
Byrne released Brazilian-flavoured Rei Momo '89 on his own Luaka Bop/Sire label (as well as compilations of stuff he liked, such as Cuban Classics), to Luaka Bop/WB for The Forest '91, Uh-Oh '92 (with Hendryx on three tracks) and David Byrne '94, having finally announced the end of Talking Heads late '91.
Byrne's cerebral frigid-soul Feelings came out '97 on WB: he had been the first to mix pop with a cocktail of exotic influences, but now seemed to be mellowing, his bandwaggon slowing down.

 David Byrne - Feelings
Ever since David Byrne left the wildly successful band Talking Heads in the late '80's, he has produced a number of solo efforts that were dominated with the Latin-flavored sounds of South America (He actually started dabbling with these sounds on the Heads 1988 release, Naked).
On David Byrne's latest release, Feelings, he has taken stock in what he has been doing and expanded and built upon his past to come up with a clever album full of his signature quirky lyrics and vocals along with some fresh instrumental juxtapositions.
Byrne has produced a fun, eclectic collection of songs on Feelings that is reminiscent of his former band (if not in sound, at least in the ability to experiment with new sounds and ideas).

From the edgy early discs like Talking Heads 77 to overlooked later works like True Stories and Naked, Harrison's expansive mixes make you hear the Heads with new ears.
On the other side you get the same album remixed in stunning 5.1 Surround Sound by guitarist Jerry Harrison, who recasts the cuts as widescreen cinematic epics, with stabbing guitars that ping-pong from corner to corner and keyboards that swirl around you.
Toss in booklets with full lyrics, liner notes, plenty of pictures, blurbs by Harrison on the 5.1 mixes, art-print cards -- then put all the discs in white-backed jewel cases that fit snugly inside a white moulded-plastic box covered in raised song titles -- and you've got a box that's exhaustive, entertaining and extremely arty.

Jerry Harrison released this, his second solo album, a few months before the last Talking Heads album, "Naked".
After two relatively straightforward TH pop albums, "Little Creatures" and "True Stories", Jerry returned to the funk-rock sounds of "Speaking in Tongues".
Jerry's voice is rather limited in range and a bit colorless, sort of like Lou Reed's, and occasionally hard to hear, but effective despite this (again, like Reed).

In 1987, Lillywhite produced contrasting albums by the Pogues and Talking Heads(NAKED), continuing with the Pogues’ follow-up PEACE AND LOVE (1988) and with David Byrne's solo effort REI MOMO.
Lillywhite specialized in producing new wave bands such as Eddie And the Hot Rods, Siouxsie And the Banshees (the hit Hong Kong Garden), the Members, Penetration, XTC and the Buzzards before he was approached to supervise Peter Gabriel's third solo album.
By the early '80s, Lillywhite was widely recognised as one of the most accomplished of younger producers.
