Topic: Naked City (TV series)

  Naked City
Naked City, which had two incarnations between 1958 and 1963, was one of American television's most innovative police shows, and one of its most important and influential drama series.
Naked City was, in essence, a compassionate--not a savage--eye.
Naked City was one of ABC's most prestigious shows during the early sixties, nominated for "Outstanding Achievement in Drama" Emmy every season it was on the air, and winning several Emmies for editing and cinematography.

Naked City [TV Series] (1958) - Overview - MSN Movies
Synopsis: "There are eight million stories in The Naked City...This has been one of them." These words were intoned by producer Mark Hellinger at the conclusion of The Naked City, a 1947 detective film lensed in its entirety in New York City (quite an innovation in those Hollywood-dominated years).
The same words were heard as the coda in each episode of the TV series Naked City, which like its movie predecessor was entirely shot in the Big Apple.

Tv Series Route 66 - Play Free Poker Game Online
Route 66 was one of the most unique American television dramas of the 1960s, an ostensible adventure series that functioned, in practice, as an anthology of downbeat character studies and psychological dramas.
Like Naked City, which producer Leonard had conceived as an anthology with a cop-show pretext, the picaresque premise of Route 66 provided the basis for a variety of weekly encounters from which the stories arose.
Route 66 was consistent in tone to the rest of TV's serious, social-realist dramas of the period, but unencumbered by any predetermined dramatic arena or generic template--as against the likes of The Defenders (courtroom drama), Dr.

The series includes an album of ambient music (Absinthe), the soundtrack for an SM film (Heretic), an album that consists of a single 30-minute track (Leng Tch'e), a live album (Knitting Factory 1989), and four albums of hardcore/jazz/rock fusion (Radio, Naked City, Grand Guignol, Torture Garden).
Naked City marks out the group's territory: jump-cutting micro-collages of hardcore, Country, sleazy jazz, covers of John Barry and Ornette Coleman, brief abstract tussles — a whole city crammed into two or three minute bursts.
The Naked City project (which, compared to the completely improvised ones, is based on composition) was to see how many kinds of music can be made with the same ensemble, to write very different things for the same group.

Its producer, Hellinger, patterned the tale after the tabloid newspaper stories he wrote in his youth, and he narrates the picture with the same kind of terse but poignant vitality that was the hallmark of his sensational prose.
Shot completely on location in New York City, THE NAKED CITY chronicles the grim urban landscape and depicts its everyday life and citizens, embracing swank Fifth Avenue, Broadway, kids playing hop-skip-and-jump in the streets, straphangers en route to work and back on the crowded subways.
In the late 1950s and early 60s, a long-running ABC TV series used this film's title to show the "slice-of-life" style of drama the original film typified, and also employed Hellinger's postscript in this, his last feature production, a line which became a household phrase: "There are eight million stories in the naked city.

 nakedcity
The narrator (Mark Hellinger) mentions that "There are eight million stories in the Naked City; this has been one of them." The city is the unabashed star of Jules Dassin's ("Brute Force"/"Thieves Highway") crime thriller, which he shot in a semi-documentary style in a way that borders on film noir conventions.
Based on an unpublished story by Malvin Wald, "Naked City," the film was so much praised that it has been often imitated and perhaps overrated in the growing status it gained over the years.
The film was the inspiration for the TV series, "Naked City." The accent here is on the ordinariness of the usual police business, as it plays as just another crime episode in a typical homicide detective's day.
