Pinij ordered the province's public health office to set up a bird-flu advisory team to assist and give advice to community hospitals on how to detect the H5N1 virus in humans and on the appropriate use of oseltamivir.

Jul 31, 2006 (CIDRAP News) – A Thai province is culling 300,000 chickens after a laboratory test confirmed an avian influenza outbreak, and the country's health ministry is monitoring 80 patients who are suspected of having avian flu.
The province's governor, Nikhom Kerdkhanmak, told the Post that samples of chicken carcasses were sent to the Centre for Veterinary Research and Development in Kohn Kahn, and results showed that the chickens were infected with bird flu; the strain was not specified in the story.
Nakhon Phanom, the site of the major chicken cull, has two patients on the list.
