Namerikawa, Toyama - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Namerikawa (and all of Toyama prefecture) lacks a Bullet Train line, so long distance travel usually involves first going to Kanazawa to the south-west or Niigata to the north by way of train or the Hokuriku Expressway.
Namerikawa has a deep seawater spa, which differs from other Japanese hot springs (onsen) and bath houses (sento) in that it uses salt water piped in directly from the sea.
Namerikawa is well known in the region as the home of Plant 3, a large supercenter type store that might remind American visitors of a Walmart - certainly rare for Japan.

Peak firefly squid season means big catches for fishermen and brisk business for sightseeing boats that provide close-up views of the magical action.
Early in the morning, after 3 AM, sightseeing boats depart the Namerikawa fishing port (Namerikawa is also home to the world's only museum dedicated to the firefly squid) in Toyama prefecture, making a short journey to fixed nets located about 1 to 2 km offshore.
