The Namosi prospect is located 18 miles from tidewater northwest of the capital of Suva on the main island of Viti Levu.
Since 1968, surface exploration and drilling have been carried out on a number of mineralized targets in the Namosi area, culminating in the discovery of the significant Waisoi copper-gold-molybdenum porphyry deposit.
The Waisoi deposit hosts an estimated 9.2 billion pounds of copper and 4.3 million ounces of gold contained in one billion tonnes grading 0.43 percent copper and 0.14 grams/tonne of gold which could be mined by open pit methods.

The Namosi Gorge is a peculiar geomorphological feature, which presently forms a wind gap between the Navua and Waidina river catchments in south central Viti Levu and is known commonly as the Namosi Gap.
Disruption of flow of this paleo river is thought to have occurred at the Namosi Gorge, which led to southward flow of the Navua river and which left the Namosi Gorge dry.
The geological history of the area as interpreted from the currently mapped geomorphology and stratigraphy is consistent with an exceptional landsliding event in the Namosi Gorge which ponded the paleo drainage west of the Namosi Gap for a number of thousands of years.

A Labour candidate is crying foul over illegal voting that took place at her chiefly village of Veivatuloa in Namosi on Saturday May 6.
Koleta Sivivatu says she was shocked to find voting going on her village on Saturday since in the polling listing provided by the Elections Office balloting in the village was scheduled for Wednesday 10 May from 8am –2.30pm and not Saturday 6 May.
She is a Labour candidate for the Namosi Fijian Provincial Communal Seat.
