 Nanaimo Station - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Nanaimo Station was built in 1985 as part of the original Expo Line, and is a connection point for a number of Translink bus routes in eastern Vancouver.
This station marks the furthest west station on the Expo Line that sits atop the old British Columbia Electric Railway Central Park Line; this line ran from just west of Nanaimo Station all the way to where the current New Westminster Station is located.
The Nanaimo Station of the Skytrain system is an elevated station located on the Expo Line in East Vancouver.

 Expo Line - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
From just west of Nanaimo Station all the way to New Westminster station, the Expo Line follows BC Electric 's former Central Park Line, which carried interurbans between Vancouver and New Westminster from 1890 to the early 1950s.
From Stadium to New Westminster, the line is elevated, except for short at-grade sections between Nanaimo and Joyce Stations in east Vancouver and around the SkyTrain yards at Edmonds Station in Burnaby.
During Expo 86, special shuttle trains ran from a third track at Stadium-Chinatown Station (where there was a connection to the monorail serving the main site of the world's fair) to the Canadian pavilion at Waterfront Station.

These vehicles are still in existence; one (Shakey)is currently housed in the museum at Station #1, Nanaimo.
By the early 1960s, the fire station at Nicol Street was becoming too small and in 1967 the department was relocated to the new station on Milton Street.

The numbers for 2000 aren’t available yet, but in 1999 the Nanaimo Flight Service Station made more “aircraft contacts” than any of the other flight service station in B.C. Nav Canada figures show the Nanaimo FSS made contact with 55,973 aircraft that entered the five-mile mandatory frequence zone around the airport.
The stations provide such services as weather observations and briefing, pilot pre-flight information, airport advisory, vehicle control, flight plan acceptance and processing, enroute communications, relay of air traffic control clearances, assistance to aircraft in emergency situations, VFR flight planning and alerting, direction finder assistance, and, issuance of aviation safety notices.

I rode to Waterfront Station, caught the Seabus (passenger ferry) across to North Vancouver, had lunch and walked around the Lonsdale Quay area, and the BC Ra il station.
I boarded, and as we drove through the tunnels, bells and announcements reminded passengers waiting at tunnel stations that the last bus was passing through.
At the Broadway Skytrain station, I transferred to the train and rode out to King George station (end of the line), then back to Main St station (near the bus/train station).

Incorporated in 1883 under the control of Robert Dunsmuir the Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway operated 72 miles of rail between Russell’s (Esquimalt) and Nanaimo using nine locomotives, five 4-4-0 Americans, three 4-6-0 ten-wheelers and one 0-6-0T switcher.
In 1888, the EandN was extended into downtown Victoria to its present location with a much larger station and to mile 77, Wellington, which became mile 0.
Maintenance shops for the EandN are located at the Wellcox Yards in Nanaimo and the Russell’s Roundhouse in Victoria, smaller yards are located in Parksville and Courtenay, however the Courtenay yards are rarely used.
