 VH1.com : Movies : Person : Nancy Meyers : Biography
Nancy Meyers could, at least in part, be credited with providing screen starlet Goldie Hawn with a couple of the bubbly actress's late career signature roles.
Her keen observation of the human condition prompted Meyers to try her hand at screenwriting, resulting in scripts for such popular sitcoms as The Odd Couple and All in the Family.
With a warm, undeniably contemporary approach to modern relationships and gender roles, Meyers ' writing for Private Benjamin broke new ground in Hollywood by providing proof that female actresses could be as bankable as their male showbiz counterparts, while Irreconcilable Differences helped to launch the career of a precocious young star named Drew Barrymore.

New York's Premier Alternative Newspaper. Arts, Music, Food, Movies and Opinion
Their sense of worldly, still-working-it-out experience is more trenchant than anything we actually hear or see in Nancy Meyers’ formulaic screenplay and direction.
Too bad Meyers betrays Keaton with a fake typing/crying montage and a love vigilante speech Erica makes to her daughter ("What are you waiting for?") that is a sop to audiences used to hearing platitudes.
Meyers doesn’t ponder the complexities of human nature within a class setting.

 BBC - Films - Something's Gotta Give
Nancy Meyers previously directed What Women Want, but where that Mel Gibson flick had a real sparkle and wit, Something's Gotta Give has plodding melodrama, an underdeveloped scenario, and an annoying tendency to coast on the undoubted charms of its stars.
Meyers' movie caters to that most neglected of cinema audiences: the 'mature' woman.
Romantic complications inevitably ensue, not least because the hot doc is also keen to demonstrate his bedside manner to the renowned playwright.

Nancy Meyers was once part of the Meyers/Shyer writing team that produced hits like Father of the Bride and Private Benjamin.
Meyers gave an interview while still finishing the film.

Meyers' films are visually lustrous both in their cinematography and design, and she called upon Michael Ballhaus who had previously brought New York to life on screen in films as diverse as GoodFellas, The Age of Innocence, Gangs of New York, Working Girl and Quiz Show.
Nancy is very involved with the specifics, and she and I discuss every color, every piece of furniture, every fabric.
Meyers had not yet worked with Nicholson, a genuine motion picture icon whose career seems to be going even stronger now than when he first became a star more than 30 years ago.

dOc DVD Review: Something's Gotta Give (2003)
Still, director Nancy Meyers deserves kudos for reminding us that 50 is far from fatal, and how, like fine wine, women (as well as Nicholson and Keaton) only improve with age.
Meyers dominates the conversation and provides plenty of fascinating information, even criticizing some of her directorial choices.
To quote John Cougar Mellencamp, Meyers' film is just "a little ditty 'bout Jack and Diane," and the two stars prove yet again their magnetism remains potent enough to carry a mediocre movie.

Something's Gotta Give - directed by Nancy Meyers
Nancy Meyers' last "big hit" What Women Want charmed the pants off audiences with its nervous, off-kilter timing, and Meyers is back to do more of the same irresistible damage with Something's Gotta Give, which she also penned.
Plus, coming in at 125 minutes, Meyers probably could have shaved off a half hour or so with little effect.
I was also surprised by the film's PG-13 rating, given the themes and the amount of language and nudity it features.

Yes, she is a veritable Mozart of the Qwerty keyboard, Nancy Meyers, when it comes to the art of screenwriting.
Meyers pinned her hopes on Keaton and Nicholson's acting abilities.
Jack's solo scenes are good, but the rest is what happens when a nice little girl from Philadelphia, a former film story editor with modest successes (Private Benjamin, Indecent Proposal) persuades a studio to salt her screenplay with stars who deserved more.

Holiday, also penned by Meyers, is an ensemble romantic comedy focusing on five main characters.

"Best Screenwriting Magazine" -- LA Times
Writer-director Nancy Meyers (1998's The Parent Trap remake) wrote this script specifically for Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton, which is how she makes this story work.
Although sometimes it sounds like Meyers is simply cozying up to Nicholson so he'll star in her next movie ("Wow, that's so insightful, Jack, I never thought of that"), she restrains herself long enough to ask him a number of technical and story-related questions.
From a writer's standpoint, it's also a relief to hear Meyers, an experienced and established industry screenwriter, pondering whether her "little tricks of emphasis for actors" (italics, bold, and the famous three dots) actually work.

 Amazon.co.uk: DVD: Something's Gotta Give [2004]
Anyway, Nancy Meyers's direction of this self-authored fairytale will appeal to its targeted audience no doubt, but don't try to screen this for your boyfriend.
Meyers falls short with the sitcom device of a younger lover (Keanu Reeves) who wants Keaton as much as Nicholson does; it's believable but shallow and too easily dismissed.
Directed by Nancy Meyer, who also wrote the story with the two leading actors in mind.

Nancy Meyers, who had a huge hit with What Women Want, does a much better job here and makes for a great adult romantic comedy featuring actors over 50.
One aspect of writer-director Nancy Meyers' script that I especially liked is that the supporting cast really stays out of the way of the two protagonists.
Filmmaker Nancy Meyers has a more traditional--yet informative--one with her producer going over the various aspects of the production.

Directed by Nancy Meyers, and with two women working on the plot, and a male-female scriptwriting partnership, this has to be spot-on with the "what women think" angle, and mostly is.

SPLICEDwire "What Women Want" review (2000)
The problems with this film can mostly be pegged on Meyers (director of "The Parent Trap" remake), who seems to have been timid about taking command of her stars.
Director Meyers never develops his alleged (and contradictory) magnetic charm either, depending on Gibson's bright-eyed smile to get that across by itself.
To begin with, Mel uses his power to undermine his new boss by stealing her ideas for ad campaigns and to do even better with the ladies, reacting to the exact desires of a coffee shop girl (Marisa Tomei) he takes to bed.

What Women Want production notes - Nancy Meyers
Although entirely set in Chicago, interiors were constructed at the Culver Studios in Los Angeles, where Hutman worked closely with Nancy Meyers to create the Sloane-Curtis office set as well as the interior of Nick's apartment in a way that would be evocative of Nick's character.
"Nancy's conception was that his apartment would be this '60s, Rat Pack kind of place.
The office is a multi-tiered, sky-lit colossus with spe cial ly crafted terra-cotta moldings, ornate "bronze" railings and "marble" mosaic tiled corridors.

SPLICEDwire "Something's Gotta Give" movie review (2003) "Something's Gotta Give" review, Nancy Meyers, Jack Nicholson, Diane Keaton, Keanu Reeves, Amanda Peet
Meyers and her characters approach this relationship with an intelligence and tenuous maturity in which both parties are trying to step out on a romantic limb while still remaining emotionally indifferent.
Keaton shines brightest as an accomplished but charmingly neurotic woman who tries to be cool and go with the flow when she arrives at her beach house to find her 29-year-old daughter fooling around with a man more than twice her age.
Nicholson's emergence from his romantic Peter Pan syndrome is more obligatory than sincere and Keaton is stuck bringing life to a stock symbol of the conflict many single women of a certain age feel between traditionally ingrained desires and the hard-found joys of self-sufficiency and self-determination.
