Nanjing University (南京大学, 南京大學, Pinyin: Nánjīng Dàxué; colloquially 南大, Pinyin Nándà) is one of the oldest higher education institutions in the world and became the first modern Chinese university in the early 1920s.
Nanjing University was originally founded as the Imperial Central College at Nanjing in 258 under the Kingdom of Wu by the emperor Sun Xiu, with the first president Wei Zhao, making it the oldest existing university in the world.
Nanjing Imperial Central College was changed to Nanjing College in 1650 during the Qing Dynasty, and the modern Sanjiang Normal College was established to replace the traditional Chinese academy Nanjing College in 1902.

 Jiang Zemin
Jiang was a member of the Communist student underground after participation in the nationwide university movement in 1947, achieving party membership in 1946.
Although not directly involved with the crackdown, he was elevated to central party positions after the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 for his role in averting similar protests in Shanghai.
Jiang remained chairman of the Central Military Commission, and six out of the nine new members of Standing Committee, Wu Bangguo, Jia Qinglin, Zeng Qinghong, Huang Ju, Wu Guanzheng, and Li Changchun are linked to Jiang's so-called "Shanghai Clique." The 22-member Politburo is elected by the Party's central committee.

Professor Lu was born in Nanjing, China, in 1926 and he received his B. Sc.
Since 1956, he has been teaching/conducting research in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Ottawa, serving as Department Chair for 15 years, Vice-Dean of Science and Engineering for seven years, and Chair of the Commission in Sciences for three years.

In 1939 he was admitted to Department of Electrical Engineering of the National Central University (which moved to Chongqing during 1937~1945 and changed the name to Nanjing University in 1949) and in two years later he transferred to the Department of Physics where he studied until his graduation in 1944.
He got interested in maths and studied it in the university.
