Nanny Ogg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gytha Ogg (usually called Nanny Ogg) is a character from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series.
She has been married three times and has fifteen children and innumerable grandchildren and great-grandchildren (it is suspected that the name of three of her offspring are a reference to the artist Paul Kidby's own children) but that's incidental; what makes her the Mother is her mentality.
Nanny Ogg is also the muse and center of Leonard of Quirm's master piece, the Mona Ogg : her teeth follow you around the room, they say.

Nanny Ogg's Cookbook - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nanny Ogg's Cookbook is a book of recipes and wisdom of the Discworld character Nanny Ogg by Terry Pratchett, Stephen Briggs and Tina Hannan.
As commented by the editors of this book (fictitious of course) in the front of the book in a series of post-it note memoranda Nanny Ogg stole most of the work in this book from other sources such as the old editions of The Discworld Almanack, Wormolds Steerage, Twurps Peerage and several others.
Nanny Ogg has also written two other books, the most famous of which, The Joye of Snackes, has been banned and the other book, supposedly of children's stories, has been recalled.

One of Pratchett's most praise-worthy, loveable and amusing character is Nanny Ogg - an old witch with a coarse sense of humour, large league of children and grandchildren, and her infamous 'Hedgehog Song'.
"Nanny Ogg's Cookbook" is an extension on Nanny's personality, a useful almanack for the Discworld, and it does indeed include many enjoyable recipes, such as quattro rodenti (pizza), Lancre mint cake, and sticky toffee rat onna stick.
There is obviously no plot within "Nanny Ogg's Cookbook", and it does not affect understanding of Discworld novels if the Cookbook is not read.

Behind him, Nanny Ogg's was an expression of extreme interest that was nevertheless made up of one hundred per cent artificial additives.

The name "Ogg" comes from a recurring character in Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels, a very entertaining and deservedly popular british humorous fantasy series.
The irrepressible "Nanny" Ogg is the wild party witch, a much-married earth-mother who can drink barbarian heroes under the table, while singing songs such as "The Wizard's Staff has a Knob on the End" and "The Hedgehog Cannot Be Buggered At All", accompanying herself on banjo (or anything vaguely banjo-like that she can find nearby).

The last time I had an occasion to look at a cookbook it was in a high school Home economics class during a time in my life where I was starting to grow facial hair and feel very confused about a whole lot of things.
In between the various insights on such matters there is often the interesting tidbits concerning witches, apparently any occasion from birth to death is best to have a witch involved and that said witch should been given food and drink (Nanny Ogg recommends ham rolls and beer) to make sure things go smoothly.
All in all Nanny Ogg’s Cookbook is a very good read whether your interested in the recipes, a budding witch looking for good advice from an expert, a fan of Terry Pratchett’s works or all of the above.
